Today, we honor Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the continued pursuit of justice. ❤️🖤💙
On June 19, 1865, the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were free. More than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
The Juneteenth flag tells that story. The white star represents freedom for Black Americans, the bursting star symbolizes new beginnings, and the red and blue remind us that Black history is American history.
Today, we celebrate freedom.
We honor resilience.
We embrace culture.
We advance justice.
Happy Juneteenth from the DSU Office of Alumni Engagement. 💙❤️
