The Office for Institutional Equity provides institutional leadership in enhancing respectful, diverse, and inclusive work and learning environments for the Duke community. The Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) provides education and support for the Duke University and Duke Health community to advance Duke's shared values of respect, trust, inclusion, discovery, and excellence. OIE also publis

hes the annual Affirmative Action Program and can provide education, data and other resources to support hiring and promotion practices to encourage diversity. Finally, the office offers outreach, education, team building & coaching, and diversity publications in support of the Duke community. Duke University School of Medicine presents The Phillips-Winn Memorial Lecture Featuring keynote speaker John V. Duronville, MD, assistant professor of medicine, division of nephrology, and Stepping In 4 Respect leader. Joining Dr. Duronville are special guests Dr. Margaret Plews-Ogan and Dr. Gregory Clarke Townsend, both from the University of Virginia.

Stepping In For Respect: Upstander Training Nationally and at Duke
An IRB-approved multi-institution prospective quality improvement study to assess change in attitudes and behaviors toward discrimination/harassment

Learning Objectives:
~ Understand the importance of Upstander intervention in the academic/medical work environment
~ Gain insight on the incidents of bias and disrespect in the medical environment both at Duke and nationally
~ Learn how Stepping In 4 Respect training is utilized to promote a culture of respect and inclusion

An official federal holiday since 1894, Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers.

OIE recognizes and provides support to all employees from the Duke community. Our Employment Equity and Data Evaluation team implements Duke’s policies on Equal Opportunity related to pay discrimination and prejudicial promotion practices. The team also performs assessments, analyzes federally internal EEO data, and provides consultation, education, and training to search committees at Duke and Duke Health on equitable practices throughout the search process.
