Researchers in the Department of Geology and Geography are providing free testing of water in Robeson County to eligible households who are on private wells. Their research on PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), often referred to as "forever chemicals," helps improve understanding of groundwater quality in the community.
The research is supported by NC Collaboratory funding. As part of the project, collected data will be shared with the funding agencies and interested parties. Participants will receive a copy of their individual test results.
To be eligible, a well must not have been tested previously for PFAS, and a record of the well construction that was submitted to the NC Department of Environmental Quality is needed. For more information on how to get involved, residents may contact Dr. Madan Maharjan in the Department of Geology and Geography at [email protected]
