✨ Friday Faculty & Staff Spotlight: Katie Kashner ✨

For 13 years, Katie has been sharing her knowledge and passion for horses with DelVal students! 💚 💛 A DelVal alumna, she earned her B.S. in Equine Management (Instruction & Training) in 2011 and her M.B.A. in 2018. Today, as an Assistant Professor, she brings her expertise in carriage driving, dressage, and rider biomechanics into the classroom and beyond. 🐴

🐎 What Katie loves most about DelVal Equine? Connecting with first-year students in Equine Practicum and Intro to Equine Science and watching their skills, confidence, and career goals grow throughout their time at DelVal. She especially enjoys introducing students to unique areas of the equine industry, including carriage driving.

A few facts about Katie:
🛞 Passionate about carriage driving, she teaches, trains, and competes in both pleasure and combined driving. She's also a certified driving instructor through the Carriage Association of America.
✨ A certified Centered Riding Instructor, Katie is also interested in dressage and rider biomechanics.
🐴 She enjoys riding and competing sidesaddle with her American Warmblood gelding, Frankie.
💚 Outside of DelVal, Katie enjoys life with her husband, son Nicholas, daughter Audrey, and her equine family of one horse and two ponies, including Meatloaf, a familiar face at our Equestrian Center.

✨ What a night! ✨

Our 2nd Annual DelVal Equine Shopping Night was a tremendous success, bringing together students, alumni, community members, equestrians, and industry professionals for an evening of shopping, networking, and equestrian fun! 🐴 🛍️

Guests enjoyed browsing a record number of vendors offering everything from tack and apparel to gifts, treats, and horsey must-haves. The event was filled with great conversations, strong support for small businesses, exciting raffle prizes, and valuable connections between our students and members of the equine industry. 💚 💛

Looking for an employee with horse and farm maintenance experience on a private horse farm. Single accommodation (camper) provided but will need own transportation. It’s a 5 day work week including weekends. Need to be able to help with horses, grounds maintenance etc.

What a wonderful day we had at Parx Racing!

🏇✨ 5th Annual DelVal Day at Parx Racing! ✨🏇

Yesterday, nearly 50 DelVal Equine students spent the day at Parx Racing learning about Thoroughbred racing and breeding from an outstanding panel of industry leaders.

Students gained valuable insights into career opportunities, industry trends, and the passion and dedication that drive the sport. We are grateful to Parx Racing and the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association for hosting such an engaging and educational program that highlighted the many pathways available within the equine industry.

A special congratulations to the five students who each received a $1,000 scholarship from the PTHA! 🎉 Scholarships were awarded through drawings held after five DelVal-inspired races and will help support these students as they pursue their career goals in the equine industry.

From meeting the track’s human and equine team members to enjoying a wonderful day of racing with perfect weather, it was a memorable experience filled with learning, networking, and hands-on industry exposure. 💚💛

Thank you to everyone who helped make this annual event such a success!

✨ Meet Carrie! ✨

Carrie is a Hanoverian mare who has been an essential part of the DelVal teaching program for more than 8 years. Known for being warm, kind, patient, and a little goofy, Carrie has a special way of helping students feel comfortable and confident, especially when they are trying something new. 🐴 ❤️

Before coming to DelVal, Carrie was part of the sporthorse breeding and teaching program at Virginia Tech, where she also participated in several nutrition and exercise physiology research projects. While now retired from those activities, Carrie continues to make an impact as an outstanding equine educator at the Sydney J. Markovitz Equine Breeding Center.

Some fun facts about Carrie:
🍎 She is VERY food motivated and loves snacks and treats!
🌟 She is one of only two chestnut horses at the Breeding Center
🎓 To date, Carrie has taught thousands of individuals, including not only college students, but also children, high schoolers, vet students, horse owners and breeders, and even EMS personnel and firefighters!

Carrie's generous nature, patience, and ability to work with people of all experience levels have made her a favorite among many students and an invaluable member of our teaching team. We are lucky to have her helping educate the next generation of equine professionals. ❤️ 💚 💛

✨ Friday Faculty & Staff Spotlight: Ally Villareale ✨

From overseeing the daily care of more than 40 horses to educating future equine professionals, Ally has been a driving force behind the success of the DelVal Equestrian Center as our Stable Manager for the past 8 years. 💚 💛 A 2015 DelVal graduate with a B.S. in Equine Management (Instruction & Training), Ally is certified through the British Horse Society Stage 3 and PTT programs and has been riding and working with horses since she was 4 years old.

After graduation, Ally served as Equestrian Center Manager at George School, where she taught riders of all ages, coached an IEA team, and discovered her passion for stable management. Today, she combines that passion with her role as manager, adjunct faculty member, and internship mentor, sharing her expertise with DelVal students both in and out of the classroom.

🐴 What Ally loves most about DelVal Equine? Teaching students how individualized care and management can improve each horse's quality of life. She is passionate about equine welfare and takes pride in managing every horse as an individual, helping ensure our herd remains healthy, happy, and ready to teach the next generation of horse people.

A few facts about Ally:
✨ Created a new course, Selecting and Maintaining the Lesson Horse, which perfectly reflects her passion for school horse care and management
🏆 An active IHSA alumna and competitor with Alumni Equestrian Events (AEE), where she has served on the Board of Directors as ATOC Horse Show Manager since 2023
🐎 Judges local hunter and equitation horse shows, enjoying the opportunity to help riders continue learning and improving
🐶 Mom to an 8-year-old son, two Pitbulls—Maisie and Rocky—and a red, white, and blue Betta fish named Fishy
🐮 Assists with other farms on campus, including helping with management of the Dairy Center over the last 2 summers
