is an annual event supported by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) to raise awareness of the opioid epidemic in America. Each year a member of the Clarke PT program organizes a Day to raise awareness of how physical therapists can combat chronic pain in a safer and equally effective manner as opioids. Here are some key facts about the opioid epidemic and how physical therapists can help:

-Opioids are continually prescribed at an alarmingly high rate, and addiction/misuse of these opioids are leading to a drastic increase in opioid-related deaths and hospitalizations.
-According to the CDC, over 1,000 people are treated in the emergency hospital setting each day for misuse of opioid prescriptions. In addition, "as many as 1 in 4 people who receive prescription opioids long-term for noncancer pain struggles with addiction."
-ALL patients have a choice over what kind of treatment they receive. Physical therapy is a safe and equally effective alternative to opioids for the treatment of long-term pain.

Clarke University Physical Therapy students participating in wore matching t-shirts all day and took a group picture to spread awareness both on campus, and on social media.

Tag yourself in the picture, and share for everyone to see! Thanks for helping to make this a successful Day!
