We are proud to see our Master of Social Work students putting scholarship into practice in our region! 👏👏👏
Today, Ashley Maki, Caitlen Christensen, Julie Jones-Svatos, Andrea Larson, and Cory Mooney presented at the St. Louis County Health and Human Services Conference. https://d.umn.edu/news/ensuring-equitable-services
Combining their academic coursework with extensive child welfare experience across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Florida, the group led a regional dialogue titled “Child Welfare at the Crossroads: Anti-Oppressive Practice with Refugee and Immigrant Families.”
Their presentation examined how systemic hurdles, language barriers, economic hardship, and migration experiences impact families navigating child welfare systems—offering actionable strategies for practitioners to foster more equitable, anti-oppressive support.
Please join us in congratulating Ashley, Caitlen, Julie, Andrea, and Cory on representing University of Minnesota Duluth Social Work with such expertise and dedication! 🌟
