Dr. Claudia Sahm is visiting UMD these days and delivered the Vose Economics Lecture this morning. Claudia Sahm is known for the Sahm recession indicator. As a former Section Chief of the Federal Reserve Board, she worked closely on understanding current economic conditions. It was a truly interesting lecture today.

Last week I took my Money and Banking class to tour the Minneapolis Federal Reserve bank. The tour was a perfect bridge between the classroom and the real world; seeing the history and structure of the Fed firsthand truly reinforced our students' understanding of monetary policy. A definite highlight was the cash processing center—seeing the robots in action made the scale of operations unforgettable for everyone. Beyond the fascinating tour of the cash processing center, the opportunity for our students to engage with a research economist was invaluable. Having their questions answered by an expert not only clarified complex monetary policy tools but truly inspired the next generation of business leaders.
