Help us in congratulating rising 3L Olabisi Ofunniyin on being selected as the Chief Justice’s Commission On Professionalism North Carolina Central Law School Ambassador for 2018-2019.

Ms. Ofunniyin is a current summer associate at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP and will clerk the second half of the summer with Judge Biggs in the Middle District of North Carolina.

When asked how she felt about being selected, Ms. Ofunniyin stated: “The law is one of history’s oldest professions, and it is rare that new entrants get to take part in charting its path. I am most honored and excited to have the chance to give young leaders, such as myself, a lens into how professionalism is viewed in today’s market, and to play a role in enhancing those views. This ex officio CJCP membership will grant me a unique opportunity to share with my peers, strategies on how we can best position ourselves to continue the legacy of service, support, inclusion, and public good in the legal profession.”

Meet 2L Xavier Lightfoot. Xavier has an interest in corporate law and litigation, and will be interning this summer at Ward & Smith and Local Government Federal Credit Union.

When asked why he chose NCCU: "When I was a junior in undergrad, I was introduced to a third year law student at NCCU who soon became one of my mentors. My mentor shared his story of how NCCU saw potential in him, despite his LSAT score, affording him the opportunity to attend law school through the school’s Performance-Based Admission Program (PBAP). He was a very successful law school student who returned to his community to serve after graduating and passing the bar. I decided to attend NCCU School of Law because I knew it was a school of opportunity that was dedicated to producing our state’s best attorneys. I too, just as my mentor, did not have the best LSAT score, but NCCU saw potential in me and provided me with an opportunity to show them more by allowing me to enter PBAP."

Meet 1L Georgia Hezain. Ms. Hezain is from Raleigh, NC and has an interest in Family and Employment Law. Ms. Hezain participated in the N.C. Bar Association's 1L Minorities in the Profession Program and will be interning this summer at Cranfill, Sumner and Hartzog.

When asked why she chose N.C. Central School of Law: "Everyone told me that NCCU was a big family and on my tour the faculty solidified that statement. I wanted a closer connection than the experience I had at an extremely large undergraduate university and I felt like the students and faculty were actually here to help and cared about my success. The clinics and opportunities sold me on NCCU and I do not think I could have made a better choice!"
