The Program in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Duke University is dedicated to exploring gender identities, relations, practices, theories and institutions. In the field's first decades, feminist scholarship reoriented traditional disciplines toward the study of women and gender and developed new methodologies and critical vocabularies that have made interdisciplinarity a key feature. Today, scholars continue to explore the meaning and impact of identity as a primary though by no means transhistorical or universal way of organizing social life by pursuing an intersectional analysis of gender, race, sexuality, class, and nationality. In the classroom, as in our research, our goal is to transform the university's organization of knowledge by reaching across the epistemological and methodological divisions of historical, political, philosophical, economic, representational, technological and scientific analysis. In our Program's dual emphasis on interdisciplinarity and intersectionality, we offer students new knowledge while equipping them with a wide range of analytical and methodological skills.

Right before , we're hosting a virtual discussion with Dr. Jane Blocker as part of this year's annual research theme, "Imaginary Maps: Feminist Art Beyond the Center." (Needless to say, the week of March 17th is going to be a busy one over here in GSF!)

Over the course of the past few days, we've been spotlighting our four Keynote Speakers over on Instagram. Today, we're introducing them to all of our friends here on Facebook 🎉

1. Dr. Nicole Fleetwood is the Paulette Goddard Professor in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication and the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis at NYU. A MacArthur Fellow, she is a writer, curator, and art critic interested in Black art and cultural history, aesthetics, photography and documentary studies, and art and activism.

2. Dr. Farah Jasmine Griffin is the William B. Ransford Professor of English and Comparative Literature and African American Studies at Columbia University, where she also served as the inaugural Chair of the African American and African Diaspora Studies department.

3. Dr. Sophie Lewis is a writer and an independent visiting scholar at Center for Research in Feminist, Q***r, and Transgender Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Sophie is also a member of the teaching faculty of the Philadelphia branch of the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research. Sophie's scholarship operates in the spheres of trans feminist cultural criticism and q***r social reproduction theory, and their interests include utopian critiques of the family, Marxist feminisms, Black radicalism, and antiwork theory.

4. Dr. Linda Zerilli is the Charles E. Merriam Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science and the College at the University of Chicago. Her research includes subjects ranging across feminist thought, the politics of language, aesthetics, democratic theory, and Continental philosophy.
