A $450,000 grant from The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation will advance three newly funded projects that expand hands-on engineering education and create new pathways into STEM across North Carolina under the Community-Based Innovation program at .

To best prepare students for the latest innovations in their field, some courses at never look the same twice.

That's true for ECE 512, which gives students in the Pierre R. Lamond Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering an up-to-date look at emerging semiconductor device technologies.

“It is a dive into a very cutting-edge space," said Aaron Franklin, who has been leading and revising the course since 2014. “The goal is to provide students with an understanding of the latest developments in semiconductor technology and enough conceptual mastery to be able to track and understand exploratory work that’s happening and what could come in the future.”

This year's Girl Scouts STEM Day at Duke University welcomed 150 students and more than 100 volunteers from 70 organizations (including Biogen and Fujifilm Global Biotech) for its ninth consecutive year. 🌟

The free event, organized by in partnership with Triangle Women in STEM and Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines, introduces middle and high school students to careers in science, technology, engineering and math through hands-on workshops.

"I was always taught by my mom that I don’t have to be one thing,” said program alum Promise Henry, now studying chemistry on a pre-med track at Howard University. “I want to be a pediatrician, but I also have a strong passion for science. This program really sparked my interest that I can work in different fields without only having to be a doctor.”

Between solving mysteries in deep space to running a restaurant in a cozy village, the first-ever spring Demo Day hosted by Duke University's Master in Game Development, Design & Innovation (GDDI) had something for every player to enjoy. The event also marked the next chapter for the program's first graduating class.

“The transition feels less like stepping out of school and more like moving from one studio to another,” said Benjamin Blas MEng '26. “We didn’t enter the job market feeling like students. We entered it already thinking and working like developers.”

Congratulations to Claire Andreasen BSE '26 on earning a Fulbright grant! 👏

Claire will spend the year at EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland studying redox-flow batteries.
