Celebrating an exciting first and third with this apprenticeship signing. 👏

We’re proud to celebrate the first cohort of students completing apprenticeships with AstraZeneca for Maintenance Technician and Laboratory Science, as well as the third cohort completing apprenticeships with WakeMed Health & Hospitals for Surgical Technology.

These students are doing more than completing their coursework—they’re gaining valuable, hands-on experience in their chosen fields and building the skills and confidence they need to take the next step into the workforce. Great work!

Great work, Marcus! 👏 A perfect example of the talent coming from Durham Tech Public Safety

From the Classroom to the Career 🚒🔥

One of the best parts of public safety education is watching students take what they learn in the classroom and turn it into a career.

Marcus Crawley recently graduated from Durham Tech’s AAS in Public Safety Administration and this month completed the Chapel Hill Fire Department’s lateral hire academy, becoming a full-time firefighter with the Town of Chapel Hill.

This week, Marcus was back on the fireground for a controlled training burn alongside Blake Whitt, Durham Tech’s Director of Public Safety Training Programs and Chief of Hurdle Mills VFD, where Marcus serves as a volunteer.

It’s a great example of the relationships built between students and instructors who are also working in the field. The classroom may be where the education starts, but the relationships and experience extend well beyond it.

Proud of you, Marcus! 🔥🚒

You may remember Kevin. A few months ago, we shared the exciting news that he had been accepted into the Student Leadership Development Program through North Carolina Community Colleges 👏

Well, we have even more exciting news to share: he has also been selected to serve on the inaugural Student Experience Council of the Thomas F. Looney Endowment for Student Experience and Innovation! 🎉

Throughout the year, he will engage with leaders across the NC Community College System and help ensure that student voices and feedback lead to meaningful action.

We’re proud of Kevin and the leadership he continues to demonstrate. We can’t wait to see the impact he’ll make!

Over the summer, our Life Sciences team partnered with LiNC-it: Linking NC with Innovative Talent and Apprenticeship NC to launch a BioWork course specifically designed for current high school seniors and recent graduates on the autism spectrum.

Last week, those students participated in a Reverse Networking event with some of our industry partners, Biogen, Pfizer, Novo Nordisk, and North Carolina Biotechnology Center, where they created posters to showcase their experiences and skills acquired through the program. The event was designed to be autism-friendly, providing sensory accommodations and a structured environment.
