North Carolina Central University Welcome to North Carolina Central University, the HBCU 'Where Purpose Takes Flight.' Discover our vibrant community, rich history, and academic excellence.

Find out how NCCU empowers students to soar toward their dreams and shape the future at NCCU.Edu. Founded in 1910, North Carolina Central University was the first publicly supported liberal arts college for African-Americans. Today, the university has a diverse population of nearly 8,000 students enrolled in first-class academic programs. While we’re proud of our past, we measure our success today by our students’ achievements. We have unique programs in place to mentor every student, and we provide the resources to enable academic and career success. With both a biomanufacturing and a biomedical research institute, NCCU is emerging as a leader in the study of health disparities. We offer hands-on laboratory experience in collaboration with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies based in Research Triangle Park and elsewhere across the state. This ensures that our students are job ready from Day One, post graduation. NCCU also teaches that with success comes responsibility. We were the first in the state system to require all students to volunteer in the community as part of their education. Our programs in community service emphasize that personal success in life includes giving something back.

| Student success goes beyond the classroom!

North Carolina Central University is among 23 HBCUs named in the 2150 Center for Innovation, Commercialization & Growth's national iLAB initiative and one of five HBCUs participating in a housing-focused consortium.

The initiative brings together higher education and industry partners to explore technology-driven solutions to student housing challenges, addressing barriers that can impact student stability, retention and academic success.

| What if scientists could change tiny imperfections inside a diamond without damaging the parts that could help power future quantum technologies?

NCCU graduate physics student Emmanuel E. Umukoro is helping explore that possibility. In a recent article on Phys.org, Umukoro explains research using ultraviolet laser pulses to selectively alter defects inside diamonds while leaving important quantum-relevant properties largely intact.

The work could help researchers better control materials used in future quantum sensing, computing and other advanced technologies.

| New pathways. Greater access. More opportunities.

NCCU has signed eight new Eagle Connect agreements with community colleges across North Carolina, creating seamless transfer pathways that include guaranteed admission, early access to university resources and additional support toward earning a four-year degree.

For many participating rural community colleges, this marks their first opportunity to collaborate with an HBCU, while opening new doors for students to experience all that NCCU has to offer.

It’s a win for today’s and tomorrow’s Eagles and for students across North Carolina seeking their next step.
