Congratulations to Abey Loving JD ’28, winner of the 2026 Jessup Cup, and runner-up Ryan Chen JD ’28.

The finalists presented their arguments before a three-judge panel consisting of Andreia Geamanu LLM ’27, Professor Rachel Brewster, and Professor Lawrence Helfer, showcasing their advocacy skills in Duke Law’s signature international law moot court competition. Congratulations to all who competed, and to the Moot Court Board for organizing this year’s tournament.

Amelia Thorn, assistant director of the Bolch Judicial Institute, studies how judges view and adopt trauma-informed practices, from clearer communication and active listening to changes in courtroom procedures. In a new faculty insight, Professor Mara Revkin and Gage Gramlick JD/LLM ’28 trace the origins of fiscal policing in Washington, D.C. to the Civil War, examining how the city’s newly created police force used fines, fees, and forfeitures to generate revenue and demonstrate its value to the federal government. New in the Curriculum: Professor Brandon Garrett’s new seminar examines the increasingly consequential role of fact-finding in constitutional law, from the historical evidence shaping recent Supreme Court decisions to the scientific and other evidence considered by courts.
