A summer internship recap from Sara Kern, MBA ‘27:

That’s a wrap on my summer with Marriott International! ✈️🏨

Ten weeks went by quickly, but they were packed. I got to learn from Marriott leaders, tour the Ga***rd National Resort, walk in the DC Pride Parade, celebrate new partnerships, and wrap up the summer by presenting my final project to senior leadership.

What stood out most was how much Marriott’s culture reminded me of Team Fuqua. People were generous with their time, eager to collaborate, and genuinely interested in getting to know me. Even though I was there for just 10 weeks, my colleagues made me feel like part of the team.

I’m grateful for my summer at Marriott, the friendships I made, and the chance to nerd out on all things hospitality loyalty for 10 weeks. Marriott International

AI, financial markets, and …the loneliness epidemic?

Summer term for our MBAs hits the big topics early.

Hear from Eva S. MBA ‘28 about Leading Business in a Complex World, the signature kickoff course to the Fuqua Daytime MBA program.

During Orientation, Dirichi Umunna, MBA '28 asked her new classmates what they were most excited for in their Fuqua experience.

Last year, we built the Fuqua student art gallery in the Fox Center, a comfortable lounge area tucked around the corner from the ping pong table.

Each Fall, we fill the gallery with art from current Fuqua students and display them until graduation. This year’s gallery submissions are now open!

Until we have selected new student art for this space, we have filled it with a collection of graduation photographs from our community manager, Will Kavanagh, showcasing the Quiet Moments at the end of the Fuqua student journey.

Today, our new Daytime MBA students start their first class, Leading Business in a Complex World, taught by four Fuqua professors tackling different areas of geopolitical business leadership.

Leadership requires pairing good analysis with good judgment. As analysis becomes increasingly more commodified with AI, developing better judgment becomes increasingly more important.

First up is Prof Aaron "Ronnie" Chatterji, focusing on how emerging technology affects business decision-making around the world.

He has some unique experience in that area, currently serving as Chief Economist at OpenAI.

This week, Fuqua welcomed the newest cohort of Daytime MBA students, the Class of 2028 and Accelerated Class of 2027.

They came from different states, different countries, different industries, and different backgrounds, but they all came for the same thing:

They came here to build their judgment,
to become the kind of classmate who makes others better,
to hold themselves to a standard no one has to enforce,
and to become worthy of the rooms they hope to enter.

Over the past three days, we have presented to them what we expect of them and what they can expect of us.

We have gone over the Honor Code, our approach to Artificial Intelligence, how to approach case studies with their C-Leads, where they can find help, how they can get involved, and how we suggest they make the most of their time here in Durham with our world-class faculty and their world-class cohort.

They heard from Second Year students who took time away from their busy internships to be here and share their experience with the new arrivals.

They learned what Team Fuqua really means.

As we wrapped up orientation with the new class prepared to face their first academic challenge on Monday with Leading Business in a Complex World, Robert Swinney charged them with three obligations, which we call The Fuqua Charge:

To the cohort — The people who will sit beside you throughout the program. Make others better.

To the standard — The institution that admitted you, and the diploma that will carry your name. Earn the work.

To the world — The one you intend to lead. Become worth trusting.

So, to the Daytime MBA Class of 2028 and Accelerated MBA Class of 2027, welcome to Fuqua.

Let's get to work.
