Serving as president of Michigan State University has been one of the greatest honors of my life. As I look forward, I hold deep gratitude for Spartans everywhere, for your support, partnership and unwavering commitment to this university.

From the moment Amy and I first visited campus, we were inspired by the passion, resilience and sense of purpose that define the Spartan community. Over the past several years, we have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the extraordinary impact this university has across Michigan and around the world.

Together, we celebrated important milestones, strengthened partnerships, expanded opportunities for students and continued moving this great university forward. Most importantly, we built friendships and memories that will stay with us forever.

Michigan State University’s future is incredibly bright because of the people who make this institution so special — our students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and supporters.

Amy and I will always be proud Spartans.

On May 21, we celebrated the opening of Michigan State University’s new Spartan Tennis Center — an investment in our student-athletes, our tennis programs and the future of Spartan Athletics.

This remarkable facility was made possible through the extraordinary generosity of Joan Secchia Nowak and the Secchia family, whose decades of support continue to shape the future of MSU and expand opportunity for generations of Spartans.

Facilities like this reflect our commitment to excellence and help ensure Michigan State remains a place where top students, student-athletes, faculty and staff can thrive.

Exciting week for MSU with the opening of the newly renovated MSU Plant Science Research Greenhouse Complex.

This investment reflects the strength of our shared commitment between MSU, our partners across Michigan’s agricultural community, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and the Michigan Legislature to advance research, innovation, and the future of agriculture.

The upgraded facility will further strengthen MSU’s global leadership in plant science and create cutting-edge spaces to pursue solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The work taking place here will impact communities in Michigan and around the world.

A connected and student-centered experience is at the core of what we do here at Michigan State University. That commitment is growing with the approval of the new Spartan Success Center.

Bringing key resources together in one place, including the Transfer Student Success Center and First-Gen Center, reflects a meaningful commitment to helping students feel supported, connected, and empowered throughout their academic journey.

I’m excited to see the positive impact this space will have across our Spartan community for years to come.

Proud to celebrate the ribbon cutting of MSU’s upgraded greenhouse facilities — an investment that will strengthen research, innovation and our global leadership in plant science. These facilities will help Spartans tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges in agriculture, sustainability and food security. Go Green!

Last week’s Spartan Bus Tour through Flint and the Bay Region was an incredible opportunity to connect with community partners, businesses, educators and leaders making a difference across Michigan. Proud to see Spartans building relationships and strengthening our impact across the state. Go Green!

Last week, we completed the 2026 Spartan Bus Tour to Flint and the Bay Region with visits to the Delta College Planetarium, Wenonah Park, Michigan Sugar Company, SVSU Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum, FIM Capitol Theatre, Flint Farmers' Market and the Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health. We had a great time meeting with existing partners, building new relationships and engaging with community members. These connections will continue to strengthen MSU’s impact across Michigan!

Yesterday, we kicked off the 2026 Spartan Bus Tour to Flint and the Bay Region yesterday! University leaders and faculty visited a number of key locations and partners including the Kuungana African Drum and Dance Company, UAW Sitdowners Memorial Park, Gloria Coles Flint Public Library, Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn Lodge, Zak & Mac's Chocolate Haus, MSU Saginaw Valley Research & Extension Center and Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum USS Edson DD946. We're looking forward to another exciting day of engaging with our community partners across the state!
