There’s a little more room for Spartans to build what’s next. 💚

This fall, the Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation is expanding its physical presence across campus with two new spaces for students to work, build and collaborate: The Station in Wells Hall (Eat At State | Michigan State University) and the Startup Studio in the MSU Union.

Together, these spaces give Spartans more places to develop ideas, connect with other builders and tap into the people and resources that can help them keep moving forward.

Because entrepreneurship doesn’t happen in one classroom — and there isn’t one way to build.

What if creativity isn’t something you’re born with, but something you learn to embrace?

For Michigan State University professor of practice Ross Chowles, creativity became part of his identity after a teacher recognized his talent for drawing. That moment eventually led to a decades-long career in advertising and a passion for helping others think differently.

Today, Ross brings that perspective into the classroom, where he teaches students to embrace creativity as a powerful tool for entrepreneurship, problem-solving and innovation.

His message? “Creativity is fighting the urge to conform.”

Sometimes the biggest opportunities start with simply saying yes. ✨

Katyra Waller’s entrepreneurial journey began before she was even an Michigan State University student, when a high school visit introduced her to a community she knew she wanted to be part of.

That curiosity eventually led her to MIA (Missing In Action), a startup founded by MSU alumna Jordan Polk, where she’s gaining hands-on experience in brand communications, marketing, and building a company from the ground up.
