Today kicks off National Transfer Student Week! When Kylie Steffee transferred from Lansing Community College to Michigan State University, she was looking for new opportunities and a place where she could grow. Through CANR, she's found a welcoming community, built connections across agriculture and beyond, and discovered countless opportunities to get involved. As an Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Education major, Kylie plans to inspire future generations through agricultural education while continuing her own learning through graduate studies.

The Packaging 2.0 expansion will nearly double the size of the existing Packaging Building, providing new teaching environments, collaborative laboratories and research spaces designed to bring the global packaging community together. The project will build on the School of Packaging’s long history of preparing talent and advancing ideas that influence how products are protected, transported and delivered around the world.

For decades, John Dilland has been a leader in Michigan’s dairy industry and a dedicated supporter of dairy programs at MSU. Recently, Dilland made a gift to the Joe Domecq Dairy Education Endowment, which supports curriculum innovation, expands teaching capacity and provides hands-on learning opportunities for students in the Dairy Program. Michigan State University welcomed more than 200 friends and stakeholders from the state’s dairy industry to officially dedicate the new MSU Dairy Cattle Teaching and Research Center on October 8, 2026.

This state-of-the-art 165,000-square-foot facility opened last summer and serves as a central research hub for Michigan’s $15-billion dairy industry. MSU’s 640 dairy cattle moved into their new home more than a year ago when new operations commenced, but the ribbon-cutting marked an opportunity for the community to see the farm fully operational.

The farm will serve faculty and students from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Medical Center and MSU AgBioResearch. Upgrades at the new Dairy Cattle Teaching and Research Center will allow for increased research output and applicability, training the next generation of industry leaders and addressing the needs of Michigan’s dairy producers.

The $75-million dairy farm project was supported by an initial award of $30 million from the state of Michigan. Continued private support from alumni, donors and stakeholders in the dairy industry has supported the effort and remains essential to fully realize the farm’s long-term vision for programming and research. The Michigan State University School of Packaging (SoP) has earned global recognition as the leader in delivering growth for the packaging industry.

MSU recently announced a transformational $47 million gift from SoP alumnus Charles (Chuck) and Jacqueline (Jackie) Frasier. This historic gift — the largest in the history of the top-ranked School of Packaging - MSU — is poised to redefine the global landscape of packaging education and research for generations to come.

Jagger Wraalstad, a member of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the College of Education and the Honors College, has been selected as a member of the 2026 MSU Homecoming Court.

Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, Jagger is a Kinesiology major with a minor in Leadership in Integrated Learning. Jagger hopes to combine his interests in medicine, research and global service by working with professional sports teams and with organizations like Doctors Without Borders. He is passionate about supporting underserved communities, exploring global healthcare systems and fostering cross-cultural connections through education and service. Learn more:

MSU’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources hosted a global symposium exploring how agricultural biotechnology, innovation and partnerships can help address food security, climate change and other challenges facing agriculture.
