ICYMI: Last month, the Canadian Studies Center hosted its 2026 CN Forum, Accelerating Innovation through Critical Infrastructure, at the MSU Henry Center.

The event brought together leaders from government, business, policy, and academia to explore cross-border collaboration on Great Lakes maritime infrastructure, next-generation fuels, and the future of North American automotive manufacturing.

Thank you to our speakers, partners, and attendees for helping advance important conversations on U.S.-Canada relations in the Great Lakes region and beyond. 🇨🇦 🤝 🇺🇲

The forum included panels on maritime infrastructure and next-gen energy collaboration, as well as a keynote on automotive trade and manufacturing.

The MSU Canadian Studies Center was pleased to attend yesterday's inaugural Patton Allison Memorial Lecture and meet Jenni Gibbons, an astronaut with the Canadian Space Agency! 🇨🇦🚀

Dr. Gibbons shared insights into astronaut training and her experience supporting NASA’s Artemis II mission, highlighting the importance of U.S.-Canada collaboration in advancing space exploration.

We’re grateful to the Michigan State University College of Engineering and Dr. Gibbons for reminding us that international cooperation is essential to tackling humanity’s greatest challenges and advancing discoveries that benefit us all.

AB/BC: Sport and Culture Across the Canadian Rockies launches next semester through the Center for Integrative Studies in the Arts and Humanities (IAH). Taught by Professor Michael Lockett, this semester-long course includes a spring break trip to Western Canada, where students can experience Canadian winter sports and explore former Olympic sites. 🏔️ 🎿

Join the MSU College of Engineering for the inaugural Patton Allison Memorial Lecture featuring Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jenni Gibbons, Ph.D.

Gibbons will share her perspective on astronaut training, mission preparation and supporting Artemis II, NASA's first crewed mission to the Moon in more than 50 years.

Established in 2026, the Patton Allison Memorial Lecture honors the life, work and enduring impact of Dr. Patton Allison and his passion for aerospace engineering.

The Canadian Studies Center was pleased to host members of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (CEUS) at last month. 🇨🇦🇺🇸

During their visit, the Canadian delegation heard from MSU experts David L. Ortega and Jason Miller about the impacts of and economic uncertainty on cross-border trade in food and agricultural goods, as well as the automotive industry.

The parliamentarians also heard from leadership at the Canadian Studies Center and MSU International Studies and Programs about the university's global engagement.

We look forward to continuing this dialogue on U.S.-Canada relations with CEUS and other partners in Canada. 🤝 🌎

In September, the Canadian Studies Center hosted members of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group (CEUS) for a meeting in the International Center focused on the center’s work promoting cross-border understanding and a strong U.S.-Canada relationship.

Explore former Olympic Winter Games host cities Calgary and Vancouver, experience alpine sports, and explore how local communities, landscapes, and cultural traditions shape life in the region.
