You have been working so hard. Consider this long weekend your cue to recharge. Make a little room for the things that actually fill your battery. Find opportunities to spend time outside. Eat one of your favorite meals. Sip something delicious and refreshing. Make plans with your favorite people. Try something you have never tried before. Or simply give yourself permission to do less if you do plan on studying.

However you spend it, make room to truly rest and reset. A little recharge can go a long way. Have a happy Labor Day!

From serving his country to serving his community, second-year MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine D.O. student and U.S. Army veteran Randall Nolin is making an impact both on and off the ice.

Whether he's participating in charity hockey events that support veterans' families, raising funds for pediatric cancer patients or helping individuals with special needs experience the joy of skating, Nolin is committed to giving back. New semester, new goals and new routines. Remember, you don’t have to change everything at once. Start with one small, specific habit and make it easier to follow through. Pair it with something you already do, put it on your calendar, prepare for barriers ahead and track your progress. Small, consistent changes can add up over time. Strive for progress, not perfection.

Miss a day? Start again.
Goal feels too big? Make it smaller.
Going well? Keep building.

The MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine mourns the passing of William G. Anderson, D.O., a trailblazer in the American Civil Rights Movement and a longtime MSUCOM faculty member.

Dr. Anderson dedicated his life to improving the lives of others through medicine, leadership and advocacy. At MSUCOM, his impact lives on through the Dr. William G. Anderson Lecture Series: Slavery to Freedom, which he founded to foster dialogue about the history, heritage, struggles and triumphs of African Americans in the United States.

For 26 years, the series has brought prominent voices from the Civil Rights Movement and beyond to MSU to share their experiences, inspire others and encourage meaningful action.

As future doctors and PAs, there will be a lot of seriousness ahead, so you may have to inject some playfulness along the way. Making time to play has been shown to reduce stress, support cognitive flexibility and problem-solving, strengthen social connection and give your brain a chance to engage in something simply because you enjoy it.

And play does not have to mean hours of free time. Dance to a song. Doodle. Toss a ball. Play a game. Try something new. Plan an adventure. Find what feels like play to YOU and make room for it. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is something with no productive purpose at all.
