What happens when GPS can't reach you, like inside a building, underground or in a crowded city? 📡

MSU researchers found a way for separate wireless devices to sync up and work together in real time, with no cables and no GPS signal. It uses off-the-shelf equipment and could improve navigation, radar and wireless communications wherever satellites fall short.

A first-of-its-kind $7.6M NIH grant is bringing new hope to children and families living with rare genetic disorders. 💚

MSU's André Bachmann and Corewell Health's Caleb Bupp discovered Bachmann-Bupp syndrome and have already reversed key symptoms in patients by repurposing an existing drug. This grant will help them move toward an approved treatment, faster diagnoses and the next generation of rare disease researchers.

More than 2.2 million U.S. workers breathe in hazardous dust on the job, but only 200 physicians nationwide are certified to read the X-rays that catch lung damage early. 🫁

MSU researchers built the first AI screening tool trained on U.S. worker scans. It clears about half of normal X-rays automatically and spotted early scarring with 91% accuracy, compared to 77% for human readers. Faster results mean workers can get out of harm's way before the damage becomes permanent.

Space is tough on electronics. Radiation can damage the chips spacecraft depend on. 🚀

MSU just received a $20M NSF grant to build IDiCaRS, a first-of-its-kind "diamond foundry" that develops chips made from lab-grown diamond and tests them with high-energy beams at FRIB. The result could be tougher spacecraft, better electronics on Earth and hands-on training for the next generation of semiconductor engineers.

From an MSU lab to biotech's biggest stage 🧬🏆

Indapta Therapeutics was built on technology first developed at Michigan State University. It has just been nominated for "Best Startup" at the 2026 Prix Galien USA Awards, often called the "Nobel Prize" of biopharma.

The company is developing an off-the-shelf immune cell therapy to fight cancer and autoimmune diseases. Winners will be announced Oct. 29 in New York City. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Imagine programming a real quantum computer… in high school.

78 students from 10 states just did at Michigan State University's Quantum Motor City camp, up from about 24 students in its first year. Now supported by the National Science Foundation, the free three-day program gives students hands-on quantum computing experience, research lab tours, and college and career guidance from MSU faculty and industry professionals.

Med school + race cars = this research 🏎️

Professional drivers deal with high G-forces, constant vibration, and hours in a fixed position, yet most get treatment only after pain sets in. With a grant from the American Osteopathic Association, medical students Aidan Davis (MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine) and Alyssa Paquette (LECOM) are studying a more proactive approach. Through MSU's Spartan Motorsport Performance Lab, they're exploring how hands-on osteopathic medicine can keep drivers healthier and faster.

Their research will take them to the 24 Hours of Daytona, Sebring, and the Detroit Grand Prix. 🏁

What if your prescription was designed with your biology in mind? 💊

A $4.6 million award from the National Institutes of Health is backing a Michigan State University–led effort to make medications safer and more precise for women. Led by Dr. Teresa Woodruff, a multi-university team is using AI and computational modeling to predict how hormones and metabolic health affect the way medications work in the body.

This is where health, data science, and AI meet, and it's shaping the future of medicine. 🔬
