The Asian Studies Center at Michigan State University, named a National Undergraduate Resource Center (Title VI NRC) since 2000 by the U.S. Department of Education, directs one of the largest, most diverse programs of education about Asia in the Midwest. Unlike other programs, the Center is distinguished by its approach to East, South, Central, North, West, and Southeast Asia in the design of its

This Fall 2026, South Asian languages—Hindi, Urdu, and Bengali— will be available to MSU students seeking to gain deep cultural insight into one of the world’s most dynamic regions.

Whether you’re starting fresh or continuing your studies, courses are offered across multiple levels to meet your need. By taking South Asian language course, you can also pursue it as a Minor in Indian and South Asian Studies (ISA), adding a very strong interdisciplinary dimension to your degree.

The Japan Foundation, New York and Social Science Research Council are pleased to announce the launch of the “SSRC–JF Next Generation Japan Studies Development Program,” an initiative designed to cultivate interest in Japan and support the development of the next generation of scholars in Japanese Studies.

This initiative comprises three components:

📢📢📢 Call for Proposals

Smith College will host the 2026 New England Conference of the Association for Asian Studies (NEAAS) on Saturday, November 14, 2026, in Northampton, Massachusetts. The annual conference provides a vibrant forum for scholars in New England and beyond to share research and engage in interdisciplinary conversations on Asia.

The 2026 conference theme, “Border Crossings,” invites participants to explore crossings that are geographic, disciplinary, conceptual, and relational — including those between human and nonhuman worlds, subject and object, as well as critical reflections on the very concept of borders. Proposals on any Asia-related topic are also welcome.

In addition to traditional paper and panel presentations, the conference will feature guided tours of Asia-related collections at Smith College, including Special Collections and the Smith College Museum of Art.
