Join the MSU Center for European and Eurasian Studies for a lecture by Nadiia Ivanova, Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy at People in Need, on how authoritarian governments use disinformation, repression, and other tactics to undermine civil society and democratic institutions. Don't miss this timely discussion on human rights, civic space, and democratic resilience around the world.

On October 1, join the MSU Center for European and Eurasian Studies for a special guest lecture co-sponsored by the Global Health Institute.

Nadiia Ivanova, director of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy at People in Need, will present "Democratic Backsliding from a Comparative Perspective." Drawing on more than a decade of experience advancing human rights and democratic resilience in Eastern Europe, Ivanova will examine how modern authoritarian and populist movements operate, learn from one another, and affect civil society, while exploring ways to help civic spaces and public discourse recover.

CEES is proud to celebrate Professor Norman Graham and this well-deserved recognition. As director of the center for 30 years, he helped strengthen international studies at MSU and fostered connections between academic research and real-world policy. Congratulations, Professor Graham!

Please join us in congratulating JMC Prof. Norm Graham, who has been appointed associate dean of James Madison College.

Graham, a longtime professor in JMC’s International Relations field, returns to a role he previously held from 1999 to 2012. Since joining the full-time college in 1987, he has built a distinguished record as a teacher, scholar and administrator. He has twice served as acting dean, directed MSU’s Center for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies for 30 years, published 11 books and helped establish JMC’s International Relations in Brussels program.

As associate dean, Graham will support faculty research and development, curriculum, international programming and strategic initiatives while continuing to teach half-time.

“It’s the best job in the world,” Graham said of his career at JMC. “I love the college and I love the students we have.”
