The Pomeroy College of Nursing at Crouse Hospital’s mission is to prepare a clinically competent professional nurse for hospital and community practice.

In 2016, PCON Alumnus Karl Schindler ’15 established the Spirit of Nursing Award to honor strong female role models from his nursing journey.

This award is given to a student in her final semester who is also a single parent. This year's recipient is Serena Steckel, a dedicated fourth-semester student, who balances her studies with full-time work and caring for her two young boys. Faculty praise her positivity and compassion towards patients. Serena will join the NICU team at Crouse in July. Congratulations to Serena on her upcoming graduation in May 2026, and a heartfelt thank you to Karl Schindler for his continued support!

Graduating students Makenna and Jaimye completed their capstone at the NICU, where they will both be working starting in the academy in July!

The Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students was created to recognize and celebrate nursing students for the above-and-beyond care and compassion shown to patients and their families. Alissa was nominated by Dr. Spagnoli, Associate Professor at PCON. Congratulations, Alissa!

Graduating student Ashley Vanmarter with her preceptor Chandorian. A note from Ashley: "I am forever grateful for you, Chandorian. Thank you for being the best preceptor a girl could ask for. Your knowledge, patience, and the way you care for your patients have left a lasting impact on me. I'll carry everything you've taught me throughout my career. I can only hope to be half the nurse you are someday!"

Yesterday our nursing students wrapped up their last day of clinical for the semester with a stop at the Crouse Health patio for refreshments. Congrats to all! 🥳
