Lafayette College

Lafayette College Two centuries of excellence. One life-changing education. Cur Non is our rally cry at Lafayette College. Why not have the courage to live boldly?

The motto of the Marquis de Lafayette, our namesake, Cur Non means Why Not. Why not engage in every aspect of learning? Why not use your intellect, energy, and talent to find your place in the world? Cur Non means anything is possible at Lafayette.

From 1870 to present, Lafayette’s treasured collection of yearbooks will be accessible to everyone!

Lafayette College archivists, students, and print and copy services staff have teamed up to digitize all yearbooks, releasing into an accessible format a rich trove of campus history and images for alumni, students, staff, researchers, and genealogists.

And just in time for Reunion in early June, alumni can look back on classmates and campus memories from their eras by perusing complete and searchable digitized yearbooks from 1970 to the present, with the earlier issues coming in the final phases of the project.

See what’s next for Abdi Kusata ’26 ⤵︎ 🐆🎓

Kusata says there are many people at Lafayette, staff and students alike, who supported him along the way, and he’s grateful for all of them.

He has been on a running streak since he stepped foot on campus. He started running with Running Club the Sunday before his very first day of classes at Lafayette, and it’s a tradition he kept going until the Sunday after his last day of classes.

“Prof. Trent Gaugler, my Posse mentor and running partner, played a huge role in my journey,” Kusata says. “He was always someone I could go to for guidance, whether for academic or career goals. We’ve always motivated each other, and I hope to keep that going.”

We happened to walk past this faculty-student pair after Lafayette College’s 191st Commencement ceremony. The two shared a hug as Kusata said, “You will always be my favorite running partner.” 🥹

Now a Lafayette College alumnus, he will head to Arizona to begin his career as an Analyst at Bank of America.

Dexter Kennedy ’26, the 2026 recipient of the George Wharton Pepper Prize, addressed his fellow graduates at Lafayette College’s 191st Commencement ceremony. 🐆🎓

“As we move forward together, I urge you to consider a number of things. I urge you, the graduating class, and everyone in this audience, to consider the feelings of others, to be open to expanding your community, and cherish all of those within it. Be inclusive in what you do, how you speak, how you carry yourself. It could change a life. It sure changed mine."

"There’s a song sung by Nat King Cole titled Nature Boy. The lyric goes, ‘The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.’ Thank you, Lafayette, for letting me love you and be loved by you in return.”

Kennedy, now a Lafayette alumnus, will pursue a master’s degree in international education at New York University.

Arthur Brooks, Harvard University professor and bestselling author, delivered this year’s keynote address for Lafayette’s 191st Commencement ceremony for the Class of 2026. 🐆🎓

“You know what I love about Lafayette College? I love your motto, the best motto ever: Cur Non—‘Why Not?’ That’s a good way to live. That’s the most right hemispheric college motto in the history of academia, congratulations. This opens up the part of the brain that you actually need. These are the questions to ask.”

Brooks was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters during the commencement ceremony.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026, the newest members of the Lafayette College Alumni family. 🐆🎓

Throughout Lafayette College’s 191st Commencement ceremony on Sat., May 23, more than 600 graduates were consistently reminded of one thing as they proceeded across the stage for their degrees: their future is theirs for the taking.

Lafayette College is deeply grateful to all who helped make this day possible—families, friends, faculty, staff, administrators, coaches and teams, alumni, Facilities Operations, the Commencement Planning Committee, loved ones, and those who are no longer with us but remain part of our story.
