Panelists will be César Cuauhtémoc García Hernández, Gregory H. Williams chair in civil rights and civil liberties, The Ohio State University; Dr. Paul Finkelman, visiting professor of law, University of Toledo; and Dr. Kati Barahona-López, associate professor of sociology, UW-Eau Claire. https://blugoldconnect.uwec.edu/MCCS/rsvp_boot?id=392082

FYI -- opportunities for students to attend/participate in El Congreso, the national gathering of Latinos in Heritage Conservation (LHD) in August 2026 in Chicago.

Congreso is LHC’s biennial summit that brings together preservationists, artists, educators, and community leaders committed to protecting Latinx stories, places, and cultural memory. This year’s summit will take place August 19–21, 2026, with a tour day on August 22, under the theme “Estamos Aquí – We Are Here,” emphasizing belonging and cultural power.

Next-Gen Student Scholarship
For undergraduate or graduate students interested in heritage-related fields who demonstrate financial need, we offer the Next-Gen Student Scholarship. Next-Gen Scholars receive:
$550 stipend for travel and summit-related expenses
Full Summit Registration ticket
Hotel accommodations at the Palmer House
An assigned mentor
Optional opportunity to present a research poster
This is an excellent opportunity for local students to gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and national connections in the Latinx heritage field. Apply via Submittable by April 30.

Volunteering
We are also seeking volunteers to support the summit and tour day. Volunteers must be 18 or older and available for at least a half‑day shift. In exchange, volunteers receive free access to Summit programming on the day they volunteer and a special $99 rate for full registration. The discount code will be provided during volunteer orientation.

Submitting the interest form does not guarantee placement; LHC staff will follow up in the coming months.
