Right now it’s easier than ever to transfer in the Chippewa Valley! Read the article below for more insight.

For aspiring educators, a new transfer agreement between Chippewa Valley Technical College and UW-Eau Claire is designed to make the journey to teaching licensure much clearer.

By creating a credit-for-credit transfer from CVTC’s foundations of teacher education associate degree program into UW-Eau Claire’s education studies program, the two institutions hope to remove unnecessary steps and time for students while strengthening the region’s educator workforce.

“Together, our institutions are building a stronger talent pipeline and helping ensure that schools throughout the region and state have the dedicated teachers they need for years to come,” says Dr. Carmen Manning, dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences.

Dr. Becca Jarzynski, associate professor of speech, language, and hearing sciences, and SLHS master’s graduate Debbie Fermil Houlette presented “More Than One Language: Facts, Fiction, and Multilingual Development in Early Intervention” online to more than 100 early-intervention practitioners across the state of Wisconsin on June 24. As part of the Wisconsin Birth to 3 live professional development series, they shared research on developmental expectations for multilingual children and engaged in rich discussion with practitioners about the implications for assessment and intervention.

Big things are ahead for future health professionals!

As plans for the 900 District Health & Wellness Campus continue to develop, Dean Carmen Manning is helping shape the College of Health and Human Sciences' role in the partnership. The project will create exciting opportunities for students in kinesiology and other health-related majors to gain hands-on learning experiences while strengthening connections with the Eau Claire community.

Social work faculty member Molly Bonlender mentored student Maren Durand beyond the classroom, inviting her to help redesign the Understanding Trauma course. Together, they updated course materials, developed grading rubrics, and incorporated universal design principles to create a more accessible learning experience.

Dr. Lesley Mayne, associate professor of speech, language, and hearing sciences, had her article “AAC at the Zoo … That Comes to You!” published May 26 on the Plural Publishing blog. The article explores ways speech-language pathologists, families and interventionists may use free zoo and aquarium cameras to support engagement and motivation when communicating with augmentative and assistive technology (AAC).
