The Adapted PE students just wrapped up another 4-week adapted swim program!

So proud of the growth, confidence, and joy we saw in the water each day. From first splashes to new skills, this experience continues to be meaningful for everyone involved—our swimmers, our instructors, and our entire community.

Grateful for the energy, patience, and support that made it all possible. Already looking forward to next year!

Cassie Smelko and Emma Beggs represented the Exercise, Health, and Sport Science Department at Edinboro's Celebration of Scholarship, presenting their research on the Effect of Caffeine on Hydration Levels in College Athletes. The work was supervised by Dr. Jim Roberts and students received a "Strike a Spark" grant that supported their study.

Great to see them sharing their work and gaining experience beyond the classroom.

Dr. Becky Wehler and 20 of our Exercise Science and Sport Management students were right in the middle of the action at the NFL Draft this weekend, and it showed. They not only took in the energy and excitement but also worked behind the scenes to help create a welcoming, fun, and safe environment for fans.

Sometimes it is the small things that matter most. A smile, a friendly presence, and a willingness to help can shape someone’s entire experience. Our students brought that approach all weekend, and it did not go unnoticed.

Grateful for the opportunity and proud of the way they represented our program.

Students, if you captured any great moments, please send your pictures to Dr. Wehler—we would love to share them!

Big shoutout to Dr. Jim Lisa Roberts and three of our students for representing us at the Boston Marathon this week!

They spent time volunteering and getting a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most iconic events in sport. Opportunities like this are what it's all about, learning in real settings and being part of something bigger.

Great time supporting Functional Performance at their annual bowling fundraiser this weekend! 🎳

It was awesome to see the PennWest community show up, including our faculty, Dean Craig Coleman, Interim Associate Dean Ron Craig, our Edinboro Wheelchair Basketball student-athletes, and our exercise science students. Even better, we came away with the win in the friendly Gannon vs. Edinboro matchup!

What makes this event even more meaningful is the full-circle connection. Our students don’t just learn about inclusion in the classroom, they actively live it through service learning, volunteering with Functional Performance to support adapted fitness classes, and then showing up to give back and support the mission through events like this.

Proud of this partnership and the impact it continues to have. Supporting adapted fitness, giving back, and preparing our students to lead in meaningful ways.

Dr. Wehler and Dr. Hammond teamed up at the NIRSA Conference to present Leveling the Playing Field: Bringing Adapted Sports to Campus Recreation.

It was a great session with strong attendance and meaningful conversations throughout. They shared practical ideas and strategies to help campuses create more inclusive recreation opportunities for all students.

We’re excited to see how attendees take these ideas back to their campuses and continue expanding access to adapted sport and recreation.

Great night for our Facility Management students with the Cleveland Cavaliers!

Students had the opportunity to participate in a behind-the-scenes facility tour at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, gaining valuable insight into the operations and management of a premier sport venue. Experiences like this continue to bring course concepts to life in meaningful ways.

Thank you to Jane Isaacs for coordinating the tour, along with Tim Cornelius from the Building Operations team and Olivia Christiansen from the Rocket Arena events/social media team for helping make this experience possible.

And to top it off—the Cavs secured the win! 🏀🙌

It's a busy week for our Sport Management students.

This week, 20 Sport Management students from PennWest University are gaining hands-on experience by volunteering at the NCAA Division II Basketball Championships held at Duquesne University. Grateful to Joe Lopez for helping connect our students with this opportunity—these real-world experiences are what it’s all about.

On Friday we will be heading to Cleveland for a facility tour at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, then catching a Cavs game.

And we’re just getting started… next month: the Boston Marathon and NFL Draft!

Dr. Roberts and his wife are enjoying winter break abroad. While there, they had the opportunity to catch up with one of our students, Mathis, on his home turf. Together, they toured the Chantilly Castle. It’s always great to see PennWest connections extend beyond the classroom and across the globe.

Service learning at its finest! Our HPE students helped facilitate the Nutrition Habit Challenge, sponsored by Waterford Subway, encouraging kids to build healthy habits all month long. The smiles say it all. Even Dr. Wehler’s kids were proud to use their Subway certificates after completing the challenge.

Our students also led the Get Movin’ program for four weeks, helping students stay active and have fun while promoting healthy lifestyles.

We’re proud of the positive impact our students are making in local schools and the hands-on experience they are gaining as future educators and wellness leaders. Great work, everyone!
