George Thomas “Tom” Downs, 75, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on October 22, 2026.
Born on November 27, 1950, in Franklin, Indiana, Tom was the son of the late George Franklin and Maxine (Smith) Downs. On June 16, 1979, he married the love of his life, Sharon Lee (Albert) Downs, in Kentucky. Together, they shared more than 47 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, family, and countless memories.
Tom loved Jesus, cherished his family, and was proud of his country. He had a passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, long rides with Sharon, fishing, boating, fi****ms, and good music. He was also a master craftsman when it came to carpentry, gifted with the ability to fix just about anything. If something was broken, Tom was the man you wanted around. Whether he was working with his hands, out on the open road, spending time on the water, enjoying his favorite music, or simply being with the people he loved, Tom knew how to appreciate the things that made life meaningful. Above all, his love for Jesus and his family were central to who he was.
Tom’s memory will live on through the many lives he touched, the skills and knowledge he shared, and the generations of family who will carry his legacy forward.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon; his son, Curtis (Tina) Fish, of Columbus; and his daughter, Cynthia (Randall) Burton, of Columbus. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Eric (Courtney) Burton, of Columbus; Craig (Courtney) Burton, of Hope; Courtney (Austin) Fisher, of Columbus; Will Kinman, of Columbus; Jonathan (Ashton) Hibbs, of Columbus; and Thomas Brockman, of Columbus. His legacy continues through his nine great-grandchildren: Elayna, Calissa, Morgan, Lauren, Barron, Aubrey, Lexi, Owen, and Ava.
