A voice from the past. A president in the present. And an orchestra bringing them together. 🇺🇸

Experience Aaron Copland’s powerful Lincoln Portrait, featuring narration by UCO President Todd G. Lamb, at the UCO Symphony Orchestra’s President’s Concert.

The program also features George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, with UCO Professor of Piano David Forbat, D.M.A., as soloist.

🎻 Oct. 13 — Symphony Orchestra: The President’s Concert

One special night to put on your calendar: At The President’s Concert, UCO President Todd G. Lamb will narrate Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait” with the UCO Symphony Orchestra. The program also features Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” with UCO Professor of Piano David Forbat, D.M.A., as soloist.

A special pre-concert performance by the Edmond Santa Fe High School Orchestra begins at 7 p.m., with the concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 in Mitchell Hall Theatre.

We are grateful for the exceptional scholarship and expertise of our School of Music faculty.

Dr. Ryan Meeks and Professor James Doyle represented UCO Music Education at the Biennial NAfME Music Research and Teacher Education Conference in Long Beach, California. Both presented their research and enjoyed connecting with music education colleagues from across the country!

By day, UCO alumna Karissa Leigh Hoag teaches music and art to elementary students. In the summer, she directs children's musicals. She also runs her own voice studio out of her home in Mulvane, Kansas. 🎭

Karissa earned her bachelor's degree in musical theatre in 2012 and her master's degree in music in 2014. Today, she teaches at Udall Elementary School and leads the children's theatre program for the Mulvane Recreation Commission. Before that, she taught high school choir and music directed school musicals.

Her message to parents who worry about arts careers: There are plenty of opportunities for arts graduates, including some that don't directly involve the arts.

🏆 A Josie Music Award for a UCO Broncho!

Tess Remy-Schumacher, D.M.A., professor of cello in the UCO School of Music, is part of an award-winning recording team.

SHAYAN, by artist Charu Suri, received the 2026 Josie Music Award for Album of the Year — New Age/World. Tess served as the album’s cellist and producer.

Christina Giacona and Patrick Conlon also contributed to the project as recording engineers for the cello tracks.

The 12th annual Josie Music Awards were held in Nashville, celebrating independent music artists and professionals from around the world.

Congratulations, Tess, and everyone who helped bring SHAYAN to life! 🎶👏

Jenny Rottmayer's first job after graduating from UCO was owning a theatre. 🎭

Jenny earned her Bachelor of Music in 2010 and her Master of Music in 2013, both in musical theatre. The same year she finished her bachelor's degree, she and her husband, Brett, also a UCO alumnus, opened Upstage Theatre and Performing Arts Studio. Today, she teaches drama at Edmond Central Middle School, leads production classes and voice lessons at Upstage, and is a mom of eight.

Her message to parents who worry about arts careers, as the parent of teenagers pursuing the same path: "There is a life in this!"

From the first step to the final note, the Stampede of Sound brought the Broncho spirit to the Oklahoma State Fair. 🎺🥁

On Sept. 19, UCO’s marching band joined the Route 66 Centennial Salute Parade, marching through the fairgrounds and celebrating one of Oklahoma’s biggest traditions.

🎺🥁 The Stampede of Sound has arrived!

This weekend, UCO’s marching band joined the Oklahoma State Fair’s Route 66 Centennial Salute Parade — bringing music, energy and plenty of Broncho spirit to the fairgrounds. 🐴

And judging by this video, they were having a pretty good time doing it. 👏

🎻 Help the young string musician in your life prepare for audition season!

The UCO School of Music invites string students in grades 7-12 to a free NCHO / OkMEA All-State Strings Audition Workshop from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the UCO Music Building.

UCO Strings faculty will provide hands-on coaching focused on etudes and excerpts by instrument, giving young musicians an opportunity to receive focused instruction and feedback before their upcoming auditions.

Teachers are welcome to attend and participate, too.
