Honoring the U.S. Army this June 14!

Founded in 1775, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Army stands as the nation’s oldest military service and a cornerstone of its founding. Established by the Second Continental Congress, the Continental Army unified colonial forces in the fight for independence and laid the foundation for a professional military.

From the Revolutionary War to today’s global missions, soldiers have helped shape the course of history—defending the nation, supporting allies, and responding in times of crisis. The Army has long represented discipline, service, and a commitment to protecting the freedoms it helped secure.

Over the last 250 years, the Army’s role has evolved with the nation itself—expanding from a small force of citizen-soldiers to a modern, globally engaged service. Its legacy reflects both the challenges of each era and the enduring values that guide those who serve.

UMGC is proud to support soldiers and their families as they pursue education alongside their service—continuing a tradition of opportunity that stretches back generations.

🎎✨ Bringing culture and community together at Yokota Air Base!

Our Japanese Cultural Engagement Club partnered with 17 on-base organizations to host a one-of-a-kind community expo at the Taiyo Community Center. About 300 attendees experienced the rich traditions of Japan through a rare cultural showcase featuring 40 ohayashi performers and 10 geishas.

What is often reserved for exclusive audiences was made accessible to military families and community members across Yokota, creating meaningful cultural connections and unforgettable memories.

Thank you to the 25 volunteers including students, faculty, community members, and local high school students whose dedication made this event possible. Your support helped turn this vision into a remarkable success!
