Rio Hondo’s Flags Team rolls DEEP 🚩

At Monday’s Board of Education meeting, Rio Hondo showcased their entire Flags program, so we had to take the fun outside!

Rio Hondo’s Flags program has grown in popularity since its debut a few years ago. What started with a handful of students now has SIXTY students competing 😤

Great job team!

We wear orange and we make friends 🧡 Wilkerson student leaders held an anti-bullying rally to remind all Wildcats that it’s better to be kind, empathetic, and inclusive 🐾

Throughout October, our school counselors are leading an anti-bullying awareness campaign focused on promoting kindness, inclusion, empathy, and positive peer relationships.

🧑‍🏫Classroom Lessons: Counselors are providing age-appropriate lessons that help students recognize bullying, practice empathy, and learn strategies for standing up for themselves and others.

🍕Lunchtime Activities: Interactive activities, including art projects and role-playing scenarios, encourage students to practice what it means to “Be a Buddy, Not a Bully.”

✌️Positive School Culture: These activities reinforce respectful interactions, encourage students to include others, and empower them to make positive choices.

Our Goal: To foster safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments where every student feels valued, connected, and supported.

Schools are a place for everyone to learn 📚

Wilkerson parents let us stop by for story time 📖 In today’s class, Wilkerson parents discussed the book “The Shark That Taught Me English.”

During the session, parents practiced reading the books in both Spanish and English. We also focused on practicing how to ask open-ended questions to encourage deeper reading engagement with their children. At the end of each class, they are sent home with a little bit of homework alongside a special family connection project to work on together.

This session is part of our Latino Literacy Project where we work with parents and guardians to explore simple and meaningful ways to make reading part of their family’s routine while building vocabulary, comprehension, communication skills, and a love of learning 🧠
