SGA welcomed a new group of student leaders yesterday, ready to represent their fellow Bighorns! 🐏

From Elko to Ely, Winnemucca to Pahrump, and online, these students bring fresh perspectives, ideas, and voices to SGA. We also gratefully recognize the time and dedication of the outgoing student leaders who worked tirelessly to make difference on our campuses and in our communities.

Today, the Great Basin College Nursing Program pauses to remember and honor the life and legacy of Tiffany Urresti, BSN, RN, a proud GBC alumna and an outstanding example of nursing excellence.

Tiffany embodied the heart of nursing. She cared deeply for her patients and brought compassion, dedication, and excellence to every person she served. She was also passionate about supporting and encouraging her fellow nurses, always striving to lift those around her.

Through the generosity of Tiffany’s loved ones and the nursing classes who have followed, each first-year nursing student at Great Basin College receives a stethoscope in Tiffany’s memory.

This stethoscope represents more than a piece of nursing equipment. It is a reminder of the responsibility and privilege of caring for others. It is a lasting symbol of Tiffany’s compassion, dedication, and commitment to nursing excellence.

As our students begin their own nursing journeys, we hope they carry Tiffany’s legacy with them: care deeply, support one another, pursue excellence, and always remember the person behind every patient.

Her legacy continues through the nurses we educate and the lives they touch.

Today, Great Basin College recognizes Constitution Day and shares a special message from U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto about the importance of understanding our government and the role each of us plays in our democracy.

Take a moment to watch her message and reflect on the meaning of “We the People."

Thank you, Senator Cortez Masto, for taking the time to share this message with our students, faculty, staff, and communities.

Saturday, we celebrated 30 years of Great Basin College - Ely Center, but this celebration was about much more than a milestone. It was about the people who made those 30 years possible.

For three decades, the Ely community has opened its doors, supported our students, and invested in the future of education. Every student, graduate, faculty member, volunteer, donor, and community partner has helped shape the GBC Ely story.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this incredible milestone and to all those whose hard work made the evening possible.

Thirty years behind us. Countless lives changed. And a future still being written together.

Our community came together for hope, connection, and mental health awareness.

We are grateful for the incredible turnout at this Zero Su***de Prevention event. Seeing so many people come together showed just how much our community cares about mental health and supporting one another.

A special thank you to for organizing this meaningful event and bringing our community together around such an important cause. We also want to thank Dr. Laurie Walsh for organizing GBC’s participation, Director of Accessibility/Title IX Coordinator Arysta Sweat for her support, and our Student Government Association ( ) for their participation.

Mental health awareness is important not only at events like this, but also in our workplaces, schools, families, and personal lives. Taking the time to listen, check in on someone, show compassion, and create an environment where people feel comfortable asking for help can make a meaningful difference.

To anyone going through a difficult time: you are not alone. You matter, your story matters, and there is hope. Sometimes, reaching out and knowing that someone cares can make a difference.💛

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this event meaningful for our community. Together, we can continue creating spaces where mental health is recognized, conversations are welcomed, and people feel supported.
