Our Mission
It is the mission of the Department of Communication of Central Washington University to prepare students to become active and ethically conscious participants in communication within – and shaping – modern culture. To fulfill its mission, the department emphasizes student-centered instruction in the gathering and dissemination of written, spoken and visual information, as well as a broad range of course work in the processes, effects and theories of human communication. The department is committed to a liberal education in written, oral and visual communication, as well as to professional training in the fields of journalism, public relations and advertising.

We are excited to participate in CAH month this year! Our department is hosting 2 events:
October 12th- Student Media Panel in SURC 135 from 4pm-5pm
- CWU Observer and CWU Pulse Magazine staff will be talking about our campus publications and their experiences working in journalism. Find out about their day-to-day, attending national conventions, reporting hard-hitting stories, awards, and more!
October 15th- Study Experiences Abroad (co-hosted with CWU World Languages and Cultures Department) in NAC 355 from 4pm-5pm
- Learn about the importance of education abroad for everyone! Find out why education abroad is one of the most important experiences a student can have. Studying abroad isn't just for second language learners; it's an opportunity to fundamentally change the way you see and think about the world.

We are seeking a social media intern to join our department for Fall 2026! Applicants must be eligible to register for 490 credit.

In addition to managing Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn accounts, you will also be asked to produce weekly reports analyzing content and demographic performance. You will then create a social media audit at the end of the term based off those reports. You will work with different tactics to create unique content that furthers your digital media education.

You will work closely with the onsite supervisor to achieve the department’s goals through the actions listed above.
