🏈 The team wears orange, but its coaches bleed Maroon and Gold!

The Orange Crush, an 8U coed flag football team competing through Burlington Recreation & Parks, wraps up its regular season today. And while the Crush proudly sports orange, there’s plenty of Phoenix pride on the sidelines.

Leading the team are head coach Alex Traugutt and defensive coordinator Khirey Walker, both associate professors in our Department of Sport Management.

A few weeks ago, we caught the duo trading the classroom for the sidelines, sharing their knowledge and passion for sports with the next generation of athletes.

A national honor for an alumna! 🎉

Congratulations to Amanda Steinman ’17, who was honored Tuesday night in New York City as one of PRNEWS’ 2026 People of the Year!

Steinman, who recently joined cybersecurity company Checkmarx as director of communications, was recognized in the Nonprofit PR Innovators category, celebrating her accomplishments in strategic communications and public relations.

The honor comes after nearly a decade of experience in cybersecurity communications, and Steinman credits her Elon education with helping lay the foundation for her career.

“Elon did a really great job preparing me through hands-on learning,” Steinman said. “Having real-world experiences before I even entered the workforce was great.”

Have you received your Summer/Fall 2026 issue of the Magazine of Elon?

If not, you’re in for a real treat! For the magazine’s Lifelong Connections section, Addie Haney ’14 reflected on the lasting impact Professor of Journalism Anthony Hatcher has had on her life — from her days as an Elon student to their continued friendship today.

Haney recalls traveling with Hatcher and fellow students to Hong Kong, where she saw firsthand his approach to teaching: giving students the freedom to take the lead while knowing when to offer guidance. But it was the conversations between assignments — over meals, while exploring the city and talking about life after Elon — that left an equally lasting impression.

“I’m happy to say that connection is still present today, whether through emails exchanged or virtual coffee chats,” Haney writes. “And while Dr. Hatcher’s time at Elon may be ending, his impact on students and alumni like me will live on long after departing campus.”

Elon students can now apply for the Coca-Cola Refreshing Films program for a chance to receive a $26,000 production budget and earn theatrical distribution at AMC, B&B and Cinemark Theatres.

From Elon’s editing suites to “The Daily Show” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Nick Dyer ’11 has built a career creating content for wherever audiences are watching.

The Emmy-winning producer has helped launch digital series, grew “The Tonight Show” audience across platforms, and created memorable content with some of the entertainment industry’s biggest names. Now, as head of digital programming and development at Ampersand, he’s helping shape what television looks like next.

His advice to aspiring creators? “Just start making things.”

From Elon to the sidelines at Pitt. 🏈🎥

Just over a year after graduating, Elon alumnus Cap Henneman ’25 has found his footing in the fast-paced world of college athletics.

As assistant director of creative content for Pitt football, Henneman is capturing the moments fans see and the stories behind them. His first football Saturday included documenting a 59-14 season-opening victory, celebrating inside a packed locker room, and taking the lead editing Pitt’s behind-the-scenes “Field Pass” video series.

The experiences Henneman gained at Elon — from Rising Phoenix and Elon Athletics to internships and hands-on storytelling — helped prepare him for the opportunity.

“I can confidently say I am doing something that I truly love,” the journalism major said.
