On International Women's Day -- Tuesday, March 8, 6-7:30pm -- the Elon WGSS Research Collective is delighted to host Elon's own Dr. Ann Cahill and her co-author, Christine Hamel (Boston U.), in a discussion of their new book, Sounding Bodies: Identity, Injustice, and the Voice (2021). Bridging the resources of feminist philosophy and vocal performance, the authors develop new concepts of “intervocality” and “respiratory responsibility.” All are welcome, regardless of whether you've gotten to read the book yet!

This is primarily an in-person event from 6-7:30pm in the Center for the Arts 102, Elon University. Those unable to get to Elon's campus on Tuesday evening may attend via Zoom (email [email protected] for the Zoom link).

The prolific author, poet, cultural critic, feminist and professor, who wrote more than three dozen wide-ranging books, died Wednesday at her home in Berea, Ky.

Students will learn about the culture, history, and geography of the borderlands and meet with key stakeholders in the immigration debate, including humanitarian groups, government officials, and migrants. A college class had two teaching assistants: one male and one female. At the end of the semester, the students scored the male TA higher on course evaluations, while the female TA got five times as many negative reviews.
