Mary has shared an update on Brendan’s condition today. ❤️‍🩹

“…the prognosis for Brendan is still difficult. The fistula bleeding caused several strokes, damaging several lower parts of his brain, particularly the section that controls wakefulness (functions like opening his eyes and awareness of his surroundings). The doctors do not know how much awareness he will regain or if it will ever happen. He will likely require significant care for a long time.”

Behold — Good Soil Farm’s Week of the Pepper! 🌶️

The McGinleys have really upped their pepper game this year!

Sweet Paprika, Banana, Round of Hungary, Shish*to, and Sweet Bell peppers round out the sweet pepper lineup. Roast them, grill them, stuff them, pickle them, toss them into eggs or stir-fries, or slice them up for a colorful addition to salads and sandwiches. And if you’ve never made your own roasted pepper spread…this would be a great week to try it!

Jalapeño, Cayenne, and Poblano peppers complete the spicy lineup — plus Shish*tos, which can be sweet and mild…until you get one that isn’t. 🥵

Thank you for your prayers and generosity. Here is an update on Brendan’s condition:

Thursday last week Brendan had the fistula repair surgery and had the bone flap replaced on his head. They are managing post op swelling in his brain.

They are having another family meeting with the doctors on Thursday to talk about next steps.

If you’d like to join us in praying, the Blessed Stanley Rother prayer for Divine Favor can be found below and on the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City website.

Our prayer request will be Brendan’s healing, peace for his family, and discernment for his family and the doctors.

Please Help the Johnson Family ❤️

On Friday, our friend Brendan was found unconscious after suffering a ruptured brain fistula.

Brendan is a husband and father of four young children, and he and his wife, Mary, are also expecting another baby. Brendan works closely with the Mount St. Mary’s propaedeutic seminarians who help Stephen and Casey Mae on the farm, so he is a familiar and much-loved part of our farm community.

Brendan is receiving excellent medical care, but at this point, no one knows what his recovery will look like or how long it will take. At the moment, he has not regained consciousness.

In the meantime, Mary has an enormous amount on her plate. She will need help with childcare, gas for the many trips back and forth to Baltimore, transportation to obstetric appointments, and the countless practical expenses that come with caring for a family during an unexpected crisis.

If you are able, please consider helping the Johnson family financially during this difficult season. Every donation will go directly to the Johnsons and is tax deductible.

Our kids will be there!

Raphael will be selling wood carvings of animals and pipes, and baguettes he’s spent the summer perfecting.

Miriam will be selling a limited number of flower bouquets and jewelry she’s made with friends.

And Augustine will have lemonade and cookies!
