WHY IS FREEMASONRY DEMANDING?
Freemasonry is not demanding out of whim, but because it pursues a rare objective: to transform the human being from within. And all authentic transformation requires rigor, consistency, and sincerity.
1. Because it works on the being, not on appearances
Freemasonry is not interested in what one shows, but in what one becomes.
Now, working on oneself requires:
- inner discipline,
- lucidity,
- humility,
- the ability to listen and question oneself.
These are qualities that do not develop without effort.
2. Because it protects a sacred space
An initiatory temple is not a social club. It is therefore necessary to guarantee:
- confidentiality,
- moral security,
- the human qualities of the members,
- the consistency of the symbolic work.
This protection implies strict rules, procedures, deadlines, and verifications.
Without these requirements, the initiatory space would be diluted.
3. Because it seeks truth, not ease
The Masonic path requires:
- thinking for oneself,
- overcoming prejudices,
- confronting one's contradictions,
- learning to master one's passions.
It is a path that demands courage.
Ease has never produced initiates, only consumers of rituals.
4. Because it forms builders
To be a Freemason is to build: oneself, one's conscience, one's relationships with others, and sometimes even concrete projects for society.
A builder must be reliable, consistent, and patient. The requirement is therefore a pedagogy, not a punishment.
5. Because it seeks to preserve the value of initiation
If everything were simple, quick, and effortless, initiation would lose its meaning.
The requirement gives weight to each step, meaning to each gesture, and depth to each symbol.
