The Take Some Hope, Leave Some Hope project grew out of a presentation in AT 835 Art Therapy Internship about handmade cards in mental health settings. Class dialogue was rich with ideas for media use and directives to center gratitude, inter- and intra-personal relationship building, grief, identity, community connection, allyship, and human change processes. Class members leaned into concepts at the intersection of art therapy and positive psychology. The project, installed on ESU campus in Visser Hall right outside the Counselor Education suite, VH328, invites passers-by who need a lift to take a handmade message from the display. Members of the campus community can also use the supplies provided to leave a message of support, hope, or kindness for someone else to take and enjoy. The experiences of creating hope and receiving hope each offer wonderful opportunities for personal and community well-being.
