September is Deaf Awareness Month. Did you know that in addition to Dr. Damara Goff Paris, we have two instructors who are also Deaf teaching in Counselor Education? Dr. Kent Schafer who teaches Integrated Treatment and CoOccurring Disorders - Group Processes in Counseling, and Theory and Practice Appraisal in Counseling and Amy Lazzaretti who teaches ASL I and ASL 11.

The ribbon cutting for the new John "Doc" Baxter Athletic Training and Human Performance Lab was held today. The new lab will increase space for hands-on instruction, provide students with an array of new equipment and better prepare graduates for positions in a competitive field. Thank you to our lead donor, Pam Baxter and donors Rainer and Julie martens and the Sunderland foundation for making this possible.

Congratulations to Damara Paris, professor of Counselor Education, who was selected as the winner of the prestigious 2024 Fred Schreiber Award by The American Deafness and Rehabilitation Association (ADARA). This award is given to an individual for outstanding contributions to ADARA.

Gaeylnn Wolf Bordonaro, Lily Thompson and Chelsea Armstrong of the ESU Art Therapy and Counselor Education programs participated in a special event in Wichita to celebrate and advocate for Minority Mental Health Month. They offered materials for pocket gratitude journals and advocacy buttons. They will return to do workshops for NAMI. Congratulations on a successful event!
