We were happy to get to talk with KSNT 27 News yesterday about our exhibit "Across Town, Across America: Emporia on the National Stage"! Catch the story here: https://www.ksnt.com/news/local-news/emporia-state-honors-and-celebrates-america-250-with-free-exhibit/

We also had a great time at the exhibit reception and got to welcome some colleagues from across campus, including President Matt Baker and representatives of the National Teachers Hall of Fame. If you missed it, no worries--the exhibit will be on view through the end of 2026.

We're pleased to be part of Society of American Archivists 250 for the 250th, a repository telling the story of American history through documents. Our featured item is a TV program produced by ESU's Channel 8 in 1976, which documents the Lyon County Bicentennial Wagon Train. This local wagon train was inspired by the national trains that traveled from all 50 states to Valley Forge, PA, as part of U.S. Bicentennial celebrations.

Today ESU welcomes Matt Baker as its 19th president. The school has grown and changed considerably since 24-year-old Lyman Kellogg, a graduate of Illinois State Normal University, became the first president--and, initially, the only faculty member--in 1865. This portrait of Kellogg shows him circa 1864. In the second photo, he gathers with former presidents Albert Taylor and Jasper Wilkinson and then-current president Thomas Butcher at the school's 50th anniversary celebration in 1915.
