Celebrating 50 Years of Impact!

The Iota Theta Lambda Education Foundation, established by the Southern Tier Alphas (Iota Theta Lambda Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.), is proud to celebrate 50 years of awarding scholarships to college-bound students in the Greater Binghamton area!

To honor this milestone and continue our mission, we’re launching a popcorn fundraiser! All proceeds support scholarships and our ongoing work in the Southern Tier.

Join us in congratulating our Vice President, Bro. Frederick Simmons and his business, Safeguard Print & Promo, for recently being recognized by the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce as "Business of the Week." Additionally, Bro. Simmons will be recognized at the Upstate Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE) Conference where he will be presented the MBE Award for the Southern Tier. The award is well-earned by Bro. Simmons and recognizes his ability to expand his business, give back, and be a servant leader within his community.

In the spring of 1975, the chapter awarded its first scholarship to a college-bound high school graduate. The scholarship has been awarded annually since to local high school seniors who demonstrate academic and leadership excellence.

Our annual scholarship fundraiser is Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 12-6pm at the Tractor Supply in Vestal (154 Vestal Parkway West, Vestal, NY 13850).

We accept donations to our scholarship fund throughout the year. You can make your donation using one of two methods. The first method is to mail a check made out to "Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. - ITL" to the chapter mailbox address:

Thank you again to the Southern Tier for supporting the 2023 Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Chicken BBQ Scholarship Fundraiser! We are pleased to continue offering scholarships to local college-bound high school students with proceeds raised from the BBQ. We enjoyed serving you and hope to see you next year!

Thank you to the Southern Tier Community Center (The Children's Home of Wyoming Conference of Binghamton, NY - formerly, Boys and Girls Club of Western Broome County) for allowing us to connect with local youth. In addition to parts of the fraternity's Project Alpha curriculum, Brothers also facilitated educationally-purposeful curriculum on the following topics: “Respect, Responsibility and the Role of Young Men in Fostering Relationships; Healthy Masculinity: Identifying Positive Traits of Boys & Young Men; and Leadership 101: Cultivating Skills to Succeed Academically, Personally, and Socially.

Congratulations to Binghamton University's 2022 Men of Color Summit Planning Committee for winning the "Outstanding Program Award," awarded by the Association of College Unions International (ACUI). Special shoutout to Bro. Andrew Morrison for his role on the committee and for embedding the Chapter's annual Young Men's Summit curriculum into the initiative.
