🎉 Congratulations to UO School of Music and Dance faculty member Dr. Joyce Chen on two exciting honors!

🎹 2026 Barbara Owen Research Grant 🎹
Dr. Chen is the inaugural recipient of the Westfield Center for Historical Keyboard Studies’ Barbara Owen Research Grant. Her project, "Chinoiserie at the Keys," explores exoticism, cultural representation, and interpretation in 18th-century French harpsichord music.

🌲🎶 This July, members of the UO SOMD community joined musicians from across the country for the inaugural Parallel Play summer festival in New York's Adirondack Mountains.

Co-hosted by faculty from the University of Oregon, Lawrence University, University of Northern Iowa, and Tennessee Tech University, the six-day retreat blended chamber music, nature, and community. Participants rehearsed and performed together while also sharing meals, hiking, exploring the outdoors, and building lasting connections.

Created by an LGBTQ+ chamber music ensemble, Parallel Play fostered a welcoming space where music and community were equally at the heart of the experience. 💚

Huge congratulations to UO SOMD graduate student Joshua Maynard! On Tuesday, June 16, Maynard's original piece, "The Skipping Stone," was performed live on the legendary Carnegie Hall stage in New York City! 🗽🪄

The piece was beautifully brought to life by the Mt. San Antonio College Chamber Choir. We are incredibly proud of Joshua making waves on world-class stages! 🎉🎻
