Today we had a great Pre-International Women's Day virtual reunion with the amazing group of African women scientists that were part of our WaterFirst! workshop help in Ghana in September 2019.(https://coach.uoregon.edu/coach-ghana) The COACh WaterFirst! project brings together women scientists in Africa who are working on water issues on the continent. It was a wonderful opportunity to share our collective challenges and successes as we navigate this global pandemic. I am struck by the universality of the challenges that women scientists are facing on all continents in trying to pursue their research and outreach efforts while also trying to keep their families healthy and children schooled. Take care, be safe and stay in touch! the COACh team.

And big thanks to the Elsevier Foundation for their support of this project.

Heads-up on the 2021 Arab-American Frontiers of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Symposium

Dear COACh fans,

The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in partnership with the Hamad Bin Khalifa University, are pleased to announce the 2021 Arab-American Frontiers of Science, Engineering, and Medicine Symposium. The upcoming meeting will be held on November 1 to 3, 2021 in Doha, Qatar and will celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the Arab-American Frontiers program. The call for applications is now open for scientists, engineers, and medical professionals from the United States and the Arab region to submit their application online before the deadline of December 31, 2020, 11:59 PM ET (Washington D.C. time).
This program brings together outstanding young scientists, engineers, and medical professionals, between the ages of 30 and 45, from the United States and the 22 countries of the Arab League for a series of symposia to discuss exciting advances and opportunities in their fields. The goal of these meetings is to enhance scientific exchange and dialogue among young researchers in Arab countries and the United States, including the Arab science diaspora, and through this interaction facilitate research collaboration within and beyond the region.
One of the main objectives of this Frontiers symposium is to advance our understanding of cutting-edge S&T trends in the U.S. and the Arab region and to foster dialogue and collaborations across disciplines. The upcoming symposium will address the following topics:
· Session I: Advanced Materials
· Session II: e-Health
· Session III: Water, Food, Energy
· Session IV: Cybersecurity
· Session V: Emerging Technologies and Society
We strongly encourage young scientists, engineers and medical professionals working on related research to apply to this truly pluri-disciplinary meeting, as long as they fulfill the eligibility criteria. Please also distribute to your interested colleagues and your network. Each general participant will also have the opportunity to present his or her research during poster sessions. Travel of selected participants will be covered. More details on the upcoming symposium, organization and program can be found here.
Please remember to submit your application online by the deadline of 11:59 PM EDT on December 31, 2020. For questions regarding the upcoming symposium or the application process, please e-mail us at: [email protected].
