What do the six captains of the 2026 Northwestern football team have in common? They are all School of Education and Social Policy students or alums. We've been training the next generation of leaders, on and off the field, for 100 years.

The captains are: linebacker Braydon Brus (BS25); offensive lineman Jackson Carsello (BS25, MS26); quarterback Aidan Chiles; defensive back Robert Fitzgerald; running back Joseph Himon II (BS25) and wide receiver Griffin Wilde. Catch them in the home opener tomorrow (Sept. 5) against South Dakota State at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium at 7 p.m.

When advisor Cynthia Coburn thinks about Melanie Muskin's mind, she thinks of “a wire shooting off tons of sparks” — in this case, research ideas ranging from teacher sabbaticals and quitting videos on TikTok to her dissertation topic, early childhood educators' online community.

"Through all this energy and creativity, there is a through line: a deep concern, empathy, and activism around working conditions for teachers — for early childhood educators, K-12 educators, higher education educators, including graduate student workers, adjuncts, and even professors,” Coburn said.

Featured speakers include former lacrosse teammates Selena Lasota and current assistant coach Nicole Beardsley Montag in conversation with Dean Bryan Brayboy. They'll discuss teamwork, giving back and the culture of winning that has defined the Wildcats' lacrosse dynasty — NINE national championship titles, including in 2026.

SESP economist Hannes Schwandt talked with Fox-32 Chicago about his research that found younger siblings are more susceptible to illnesses brought home by their older sibs, leading to reduced earnings, lower college graduation rates, and increased mental health issues later in life. SESP is on the move! After Labor Day, we’ll be in 2001 Sheridan. Here’s the last morning walk into Annenberg Hall for Associate Dean Coleen Coleman, who has been in Annenberg Hall since the groundbreaking in 1993. “We’ve done so much good work here, together,” she says. “Now we’ll just have to do more.” 💜

McAdams is a psychologist, professor of human development and social policy, and a pioneer of the subfield “narrative psychology.”
