🏀 Senior Lecturer Chris Herring will teach undergraduate and graduate journalism students at Medill. Prior to joining Medill full-time in 2026, Herring covered the NBA for ESPN, Sports Illustrated and FiveThirtyEight.

📊 Research Assistant Professor Koo Yul Kim is joining the Medill Spiegel Research Center. His research focuses on consumer behavior and marketing in sports business, with particular interests in sponsorship and revenue generation, the sports gambling market and the sports ticket market.

Medill Dean Charles Whitaker and Medill Local News Initiative (LNI) Founding Director Tim Franklin rang the Nasdaq Bell in New York City today. 🔔

They celebrated LNI's win of a prestigious Chicago Innovation Award, which is the region's foremost recognition of the most innovative new products or services brought to market.

LNI is a research and development project aimed at helping transform the local news ecosystem in Chicago and across the country during a time of historic change in the media industry. 🗞️

Wildcats at work: Tomas Moran (BSJ28) 📺

🏛️ Moran is spending his summer interning for The Lead with Jake Tapper at CNN's Washington, D.C. bureau.

"Depending on the day, I could be a segment producer, digital editor, researcher or all of the above," he said. "I also have the incredible opportunity of shadowing reporters in the field, including Capitol Hill and the White House. I'm so grateful to the folks at CNN for their mentorship and guidance, looking forward to continuing my work at the bureau!"

MSJ students recently wrapped up their Hosting & Producing Lifestyle Content course with Adjunct Lecturer Cortney Hall. Students spent five weeks learning how to produce and host a lifestyle segment to add to their reel. 🎥

Wildcats at work: Isabel Papp (BSJ28) 🎥

🗞️ Papp is spending her summer as a news intern learning from the journalists at NBC Chicago and Telemundo, both at the local and bureau level.

"I’m responsible for researching and reporting on happenings in Chicago," she said. "I coordinate and conduct interviews in the newsroom and on the field, and I assist in every stage of story development in both English and Spanish! I’m privileged beyond words to have received mentorship from the team at NBC and Telemundo and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer holds!"

In 2024 and 2025, students in our Washington, D.C. Medill Investigative Lab partnered with ProPublica to investigate the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and its oversight of the risky foreign drugmakers that supply essential medications to Americans. 📰💊

The series had a direct impact on federal legislation and received numerous prestigious journalism awards, including:

• Finalist, Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting
• Finalist, Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting
• Winner, IRE Freedom of Information Medal
