Studying the mechanics behind modern markets ⚙️

We’re proud to welcome Alexander Ober to the Kellogg finance faculty.

From Capstone to co-founders

The Executive MBA Capstone course is an opportunity for students to put theory into practice with a realistic business challenge. For Gina Baeg ’25 MBA and Katrina Mercado ’25 MBA, it also laid the foundation for their company, Elytra Holdings, an entrepreneurship-through-acquisition firm.

Though neither Gina nor Katrina thought they’d pursue entrepreneurship when they entered the EMBA Program, the Capstone course opened them up to new opportunities and revealed how complementary their skill sets were.

“The Capstone truly mimics real life,” Gina says. “The negotiation, the relationships, the interactions between all parties. I can’t remember how many times I’ve said, ‘Remember this happening during Capstone.’”

Proud doesn’t begin to cover it. 🇺🇸

When Northwestern opened its new stadium on October 2, exactly 100 years after the original stadium’s first game, members of the Kellogg Veterans Association helped unfurl the American flag across the field during the National Anthem.

Our student veterans bring a deep commitment to service and leadership to the Kellogg community, and it was a privilege to see them recognized on such a big stage for Northwestern.

Congratulations to the Wildcats on christening the new stadium with a 34-13 win, and thank you to Northwestern Athletics for including our community in this milestone.

CUE-ing up empathy in research 🔍

The best researchers are those who deeply understand their customers’ pain points. That’s why Professor Gina Fong set out to increase students’ Curiosity, Understanding and Empathy when developing a new research skills course, aptly named CUE.

Designed for second-year students in thedual-degree MMM Program, the course builds advanced research capabilities while helping students better understand consumers and become more effective designers and managers.

“Curiosity is the foundation for being an insightful designer or product manager,” Professor Fong says. “You have to want to enter someone else’s world to understand who they are and develop empathy for them. Only then can you create a product, brand or service that meets their needs.”

This fall, Beata Kirr ’02 MBA returned to Kellogg as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Emerging Finance Leaders Networking Reception.

Solving climate challenges requires casting a wider net 🌐

Building on last year’s successful launch, the Abrams Climate Academy is expanding its signature interdisciplinary approach to bring even more perspectives to climate solutions.

Made up of students from Kellogg, Pritzker, Medill, McCormick and Weinberg, the 2026-2027 cohort of Climate Fellows represents a broad range of expertise and problem-solving potential. When one open door leads to another🚪

For Rob Pothier ’18 MBA, a scholarship to Kellogg led him to the Marketing Club, an internship at PepsiCo, and eventually a full-time role where he could put the lessons he learned in class into action across the brand.

A decade later, Rob is still reaping the Kellogg rewards. Thanks to Northwestern’s Top 50 global ranking, he qualified for a High Potential Individual visa to work in the UK without a company sponsorship. He and his family relocated to London, where he currently serves as the marketing director and chief of staff at PepsiCo. His international portfolio features partnerships with FIFA, UEFA and the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

How do you help people make decisions that match their values and long-term goals? It's the question Professor Megan Weber has been chasing since her first internship.

At a behavioral science consulting firm in San Francisco, she watched colleagues turn research on how people think into recommendations that helped companies connect with their customers. Now she's continuing that work at Kellogg, where she's teaching Marketing Management this year.

Outside the classroom, you might find her at an Irish dance class. She competed from elementary school through college and still joins a class or two in Chicago.

Growth beyond grades 🌟

When Ryan Ghosh ’26 MBA arrived in Evanston, he was hit with a case of imposter syndrome. He’d left a career in pharmaceuticals looking for a better understanding of the healthcare system, and he wondered if he really belonged at Kellogg among so many accomplished peers.

Two years later, he graduated with a healthcare certificate and a Dean's Service Award for significant and lasting contributions to the Kellogg community.

“Over time, I became more comfortable trusting myself, taking chances and contributing in ways that felt authentic to me,” Ryan says. “I leave with a broader perspective, a stronger sense of how I want to lead and friendships I will carry far beyond Evanston.”
