“Digital change is a people problem.”

New technologies, no matter how efficient and groundbreaking, often face pushback in the workplace from employees who are reluctant to change. In a recent article for Inc., Professor David Schonthal says “soft skills” are the key to guiding employees through changes and successfully implementing new technology.

“The software was never the problem. Moving the humans was the problem,” he says. “It always is.”

Professor Schonthal encourages business leaders to learn and apply “soft skills” in these situations, claiming they are just as measurable, analytical and precise as those often considered “hard skills.”

Congratulations to Professor William Brady and collaborators Joshua Jackson of Harvard University and Douglas Guilbeault of Stanford University on a three-year, $1.3 million grant from the John Templeton Foundation.

Their project, “Fostering Innovation Through Humility in the Online Marketplace of Ideas,” will explore whether intellectual humility can help people engage across differences in ways that encourage innovation.

While much of the research on online social networks focuses on toxicity and misinformation, the team will examine how these platforms could also support the creation and exchange of new ideas. Their work will consider how network structures, algorithms and group conflict influence how ideas are generated, shared and combined online.

Sonita Lontoh ’06 MBA is a champion of technology for humanity.

At her 20th Kellogg Reunion, Sonita spoke on a panel alongside Professor Mohanbir Sawhney about AI governance and the increasing importance of good human judgment as technology evolves.

Sonita holds many titles, including board director at Sunrun and advisor to the Abrams Climate Academy, but she urged professionals during her discussion to think less about titles.

“Students often ask me whether to pursue impact or ambition,” Sonita said. “That framing is outdated. The most ambitious careers of the next 20 years will be built in places where those are the same thing.”

Winning $50,000 is only part of the story 🏆

Kellogg’s win at the 2026 Turner MBA Impact Investing Network and Training (MIINT) Competition came as a rare unanimous decision from the judges.

While reflecting on their success, team members Liusine Khachumova ’26 MBA, Richa Jatia ’26 MBA, Gibb Anella ’27, Kunal Vats ’27 and Paul Esslinger ’27 identified unique takeaways from the experience.

For Richa, MIINT taught her that real confidence is about being comfortable sitting with uncertainty. Paul learned that impact investing doesn’t always depend on who can tell the best story, but rather how durable the impact feels. Luisine said heeding early advice from a Kellogg professor on being upfront about risks was a critical factor in the team’s success.

A summer internship can offer more than experience in a new role. It can challenge students to adapt, build confidence and rethink what leadership looks like in practice.

Two-Year MBA students Madison Pauly ’27 and Nick Gulson ’27 are spending the summer at Apple and Google, where they are gaining firsthand experience in product management. Their work is teaching them how to connect insights across teams, build credibility in unfamiliar environments and keep customer needs at the center of complex decisions.

“Some call it impulsivity, some call it intuition. I’d call it conviction.”

Amber Jackson ’21 MBA doesn't consider herself a risk taker. She sees herself more as a bold decision maker.

From LA to Evanston to Barcelona, Amber has built her career on pure conviction. Returning to campus this spring for her five-year Reunion was an affirming reminder of just how much business school made possible for her, including her newest venture as an entrepreneur.
