The Evanston-North Shore Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was chartered on 1975. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is an organization of college educated women committed to the constructive development of its members and to public service with a primary focus on the Black community. is a private, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and suppo

rt through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Since its’ founding more than 300,000 women have joined the organization. The organization is a sisterhood of predominantly Black, college educated women. The sorority currently has over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Republic of Korea, the Arabian Gulf, Southern Africa and West Africa. The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement. Yesterday at My Black is Beautiful was truly something special. 💛

A huge thank you to Rayvin, the creator of My Black is Beautiful, for creating such a powerful and intentional space for these young girls.

Thank you as well to all of the amazing cooking session volunteers who showed up with love. You made this experience possible.

Yes, we were able to serve the community, but the most rewarding part was watching the excitement and confidence grow within each of the young girls.

The highlight for me? After making the rice, one girl was so excited because now she can cook it with her grandfather, who eats rice almost every day. And another stepped fully into her confidence by preparing a full meal on her own without her mom’s guidance.

This is what Kitchen to Community is all about! Cooking with purpose, giving with love, and building the next generation one experience at a time.
