On Tuesday, 4/28, our department had the pleasure of coming together for a wonderful Senior Celebration and Honor Society Induction Ceremony for Alpha Kappa Delta and Lambda Alpha. It was a special opportunity to celebrate our soon-to-be graduates, recognize our new AKD and LA inductees, and hear inspiring words from our faculty, Sociology Valedictorian Chloe Burke, and Anthropology Valedictorian Maura Cummings. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to each of you for your hard work, dedication, and contributions to our department over the years. To our seniors, we will miss you dearly, but we are excited to see all that lies ahead for you and hope you will keep in touch!!

Thank you Dr. George Leader for sharing your incredible documentary “Across the Namib” with us last night. Your 12-day trek across the desert was awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping and will change archaeological study of the region for years to come.

What better way to learn about history than to live it? Our April 26’ Student Spotlight is highlighting history major and archaeology minor, Colin Helkowski ‘28, who spent part of his spring break reenacting with a Revolutionary War group. He plans to join more reenactments as a great way to experience and understand history. This fun hobby helps us see anthropology in action, as history informs how we understand humans today.
