Students recently gathered at the home of 2026 Business Leader of the Year recipient Meg Nordale. 💙💛

Meg welcomed everyone into her home and cooked dinner for the group while students introduced themselves and asked questions in a relaxed setting. Throughout the evening, Meg shared stories and lessons from both her career and her life outside of work.

After dinner, the conversation continued as everyone headed outside for s’mores around the fire. 🔥

Service beyond the storm.

When Typhoon Halong devastated the Umkumiut fish camp near Toksook Bay, members of the UAF community traveled to western Alaska to support recovery efforts grounded in listening, partnership and respect for the community’s culture.

CBSM was proud to help organize the mission and to have three members of our college participate:

• John Pennington, director of the Security and Disaster Management program
• Shelbie Umphenour, director of the CBSM Student Success Center
• Duke Ombati, a recent Security and Disaster Management graduate

Their work demonstrates how classroom knowledge, community relationships and a commitment to service can come together to make a meaningful difference.

We are also pleased to share this thoughtfully written story by former CBSM Communications Specialist Stacey Currie, who worked diligently to capture the experience and the people behind it.

MBA Student Spotlight - Halle Waram 🔦
Former Alaska Nanook Halle Waram has stepped into our MBA program after completing her BA in Communications here at UAF. She is now the Director of Hockey Operations at UAA, making her one of only a few women and the youngest person in the country to hold this role.

"Working in hockey operations has shown me that there is much more to running a successful athletic program than what happens on the ice. The MBA is giving me a stronger understanding of areas such as budgeting, leadership, communication, strategic planning, and organizational management, which I can apply directly to my current role as Director of Hockey Operations at UAA. As a woman pursuing a career in sports, I also recognize that women are still underrepresented in many leadership and operations roles, particularly in traditionally male-dominated areas of athletics. Ultimately, I hope my career can help demonstrate that women belong in these spaces and encourage other young women to pursue leadership roles in sports as well."

We are very proud of our graduates that have chosen to pursue an MBA here at CBSM!

This week, CBSM students, faculty and staff headed to the Fairbanks Chamber to hear from Peter Webley. As director of the UAF Center for Innovation, Peter has strong ties to CBSM, including teaching, consulting and serving as a judge for the UAF Arctic Innovation Competition.
