Qalucak, or Ricky Lind, Jr. is a RAHI 2001 alumni. He recently left the elementary music classroom after teaching 16 years and now offers administrative abilities as a liaison between Southcentral Foundation staff, SCF Youth Programs, and the Anchorage community since May 2024.

After seeing four principals come and go within his first six years of teaching, Ricky went back to school and achieved the Principal Certification in 2015; his mentors urged him to obtain experience outside of Dillingham, and Anchorage School District hired him same-year. From teaching music for ASD to supervising SCF interns, Ricky has noticed that being from Dillingham has curated a connection to both his Yup'ik and Sugpiaq values; he enjoys sharing pieces of it with everyone he works with.

Ricky's interns are based at the Alaska Native Medical Center; when not at SCF, he can be found at a local Goodwill thrift store digging for โ€œtreasure,โ€ in his garage upcycling found furniture while listening to EDM, or on the couch with his 18-year old Siamese cat, "Kitty," while enjoying a supernatural-related horror film (or playing Animal Crossing on Nintendo Switch).

This summer, RAHI offered the Diesel and Heavy Machinery track for the first time, thanks to generous funding from the Federal Highway Administration and through a partnership with Alaska Tribal Technical Assistance Program (AKTTAP).

Under the instruction of Travis Cortez, students learned the basics of safety and rigging, and the maintenance and operation of diesel engines and heavy machinery. ๐Ÿš›๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ”ง๐Ÿงฐ

This past weekend, RAHI students traded campus life for one of the most iconic landscapes on earth... Denali. ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

The day started with a leisurely hike, a chance to take in the stunning scenery, breathe in the fresh air, and soak up the kind of views most people only see in photos.

Then things got a little wild. Students hit the Nenana River for white water rafting that was every bit as thrilling as it sounds. A few came out wetter than others, but every single one came out proud. From the looks on their faces, it's safe to say the experience delivered!

A peaceful morning. An epic afternoon. These students are living it. ๐ŸŒฟ

We're so grateful for experiences like this one; moments that push students beyond their comfort zone and remind them what they're capable of. That's RAHI.

We can hardly believe we're only 13 days out from RAHI graduation! Last week our students conquered midterms AND Bingle Camp! ๐Ÿ•๏ธ

Two nights away from campus meant swimming, canoeing, and the event everyone looks forward to: Fun Olympics.

For the uninitiated, Fun Olympics is a beloved RAHI tradition where family groups go head-to-head in a mix of silly games (Toilet Paper Mummy, anyone? ๐Ÿงป), physical challenges like Walk the Plank, and serious bragging rights, all in the name of a spot on the coveted RAHI Fun Olympics trophy.

And if that wasn't enough, the evening closed out with family group skits that were equal parts hilarious and... let's just say dramatic (in the most theatrical sense of the word ๐ŸŽญ). Every single student played a role, and we got to see new sides from everyone.

We couldn't be prouder of how everyone showed up this weekend. Onward to finals and graduation! ๐Ÿ’ช

Hard hats on, minds sharp! ๐Ÿฆบโœจ

RAHI students are diving headfirst into the world of industrial operations in their Introduction to Process Technology and Quality Concepts classes! These classes are the official first steps toward a Process Technology AAS degree!

Students are gaining broad, hands-on knowledge of what it takes to be a Process Technician, with a special emphasis on the unique demands of Alaskan industry processes, terminology, regulatory agencies, and process drawings. On top of that, theyโ€™re mastering essential tools of quality management and learning how to seamlessly weave top-tier quality systems into daily industrial operations.

We are so proud of the grit and focus these students are bringing to the workforce of tomorrow! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™
