Sigma Chi - Iota Xi

Sigma Chi - Iota Xi The Iota Xi Chapter of Sigma Chi, located at George Mason University. The Iota Xi Chapter of Sigma Chi, located at a George Mason University, is held together tightly by the lifelong bond of brotherhood.
(1)

We pride ourselves on the diversity of the brothers in our chapter, with ranging interests from extracurricular activities, academics, and cultural identities that make this chapter a very special place. Our chapter has a strong commitment to philanthropy and fundraising. The brothers of Iota Xi work to create a better community through public service. Some of our projects include the sponsorship of Adopt A Highway, and our annual Derby Days event which raises money for The Huntsman Cancer Foundation. While we are dedicated to bettering the community, ourselves, and George Mason University as a whole, we are still social fraternity. Throughout the year, our Social Chair plans many themed events, mixers, BBQ's, and socials. With so much to do, weekends are never boring. Our brothers make it a priority to balance both schoolwork and fun. Sigma Chi's core values are friendship, justice and learning and the Iota Xi chapter embodies these values in everything that we do.

Mission: The Sigma Chi Fraternity is a brotherhood with roots in the collegiate experience that engenders a lifelong commitment to strive to achieve true friendship, equal justice and the fulfillment of learning as part of our overall responsibilities to the broader communities in which we live.

The fundamental purpose of the Sigma Chi Fraternity is the cultivation, maintenance and accomplishment of the ideals of Friendship, JUSTICE and Learning within our membership. They are referred to as The Three Great Aims of our Fraternity. Sigma Chi continuously pursues the aim of Justice through a commitment of every member of Sigma Chi to promote fairness, decency and good will through our every interaction. Through this commitment we can no longer idly stand by and watch our POC brothers and sisters be unfairly treated through injustice and racist acts against them. We are here to provide strong arms to the family of George Floyd and to everyone who has been affected by racism. We will not be silent and we will not accept the status quo. #blacklivesmatter —————————

Today's #MeetaSigMonday is Brother Amir Elkamel. Amir is from Arlington, VA and is a 4th year chemistry major with a concentration in biochemistry. Amir is the former Consul of the Iota Xi chapter and currently surves as both our Magister and the Housing Manager. When asked about Sigma Chi, Amir gave us a novel. He said: "Putting what Sigma Chi has done for me into words is very difficult. There are the tangible things, such as the social scene, the free trips to frat camp, and the amazing alumni network; however, what I cherish most are the fraternal bonds that I've created throughout my college experience. They're the guys who will be my groomsmen, the godparents to my children, and inevitably the people giving eulogies in my honor. They are the men who bring out the best in you, and are your yes-men when it's appropriate, but still hold you accountable when it's not. Iota Xi will always have my heart."

Fun Fact: Amir liked Sigma Chi so much he rushed twice 😉

Hello! I'm a PhD student at GMU looking for participants for a paid online research study. Register here: https://bit.ly/2Y0rbA6 DM me or email [email protected] for more info!
Keep Brother Wynn in our thoughts and prayers.
I would like to talk to your philanthropic chair. I am a LLS, Eta Theta-Georgia Southwestern 1983. My daughter is involved with Tim Tebow’s “A Night to Shine” at All Saints Catholic in Manassas Virginia. On Feb 8 they are holding a “prom” for special needs and could use “buddies” for the event. Any interest in helping out?
Brothers, it is with great sadness that I write that Mike Smith's wife has passed. Details of the service are in the information attached. Mike was a founding brother of Iota Xi and Kristin also attended GMU and was known by a lot of us. Prayers for their family. God Bless! https://www.moneyandking.com/obituaries/Kristin-Wells-Smith?obId=3957168#/celebrationWall
