We pride ourselves on the diversity of the brothers in our chapter, with ranging interests from extracurricular activities, academics, and cultural identities that make this chapter a very special place. The brothers of Iota Xi work to create a better community thro

ugh public service. Some of our projects include the sponsorship of Adopt A Highway, and our annual Derby Days event which raises money for The Huntsman Cancer Foundation. While we are dedicated to bettering the community, ourselves, and George Mason University as a whole, we are still social fraternity. Throughout the year, our Social Chair plans many themed events, mixers, BBQ's, and socials. With so much to do, weekends are never boring. Our brothers make it a priority to balance both schoolwork and fun. Sigma Chi's core values are friendship, justice and learning and the Iota Xi chapter embodies these values in everything that we do.

This week, we are proud to highlight Cole Messina as our Brother of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year.

As president, Cole has led our chapter to unprecedented heights, driving significant increases in membership, academic success, and community engagement. His unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership have made a profound impact on the Iota Xi chapter.

We are deeply grateful for Cole’s hard work and commitment. Thank you, Cole, for everything you have done for our chapter.

This week we would like to spotlight one our Alumni, brother John Hall (GMU class of '92).

John Hall is currently the Interim CFO for Hungry Marketplace, Inc, and is serving as the Treasurer for the GMU Alumni Association. He received GMU's 'Prominent Patriot' award in 2022 for his years of service to the school and was awarded "CFO of the Year" in 2021 by the Northern Virginia Technology Council.

When asked how Sigma Chi impacted him, he said:

"In college Sigma Chi provided me the foundation to start my life's journey to be a man of good character with ambitious purposes, a congenial disposition, good morals, a high sense of honor and a deep sense of personal responsibility. I learned to make friends with brothers who had different temperaments, talents and convictions. With the experiences gained from being active in the Fraternity, I left school with confidence in who I was as a person and an ability to be a leader of other men and women in the workplace, in several civic groups, a husband and father of three great kids. I believe the values I studied, embraced and still aspire to master have set me ahead of my peers in the workforce. I've often been the person people look to for guidance and leadership., whether it be as an award winning CFO, a Board member, a Scoutmaster, President of the Jaycees or a small group leader for a Bible study. Next to marrying my college sweetheart Alissa (a Zeta at Mason), joining Sigma Chi was the best decision I ever made and the most impactful one on who I am as a person and my journey through life. I am still very close to many brothers I went to college with and have never felt alone, unloved or unappreciated a day in my life since I was initiated."

169 years ago today at Miami of Ohio University seven men decided to found Sigma Chi. We are grateful for the legacy these men have left as it has allowed us at the Iota Xi chapter ,as well as the hundreds of other chapters around the world, to make memories and bonds which last a lifetime. To grow and to be our best selves.

We know it has been a while since you've seen us, but not to worry! We've done some incredible things this year, including, but not limited to: Initiating both our fall pledge class, Beta Phi, and, our first Spring Pledge Class in nearly 5 years, Beta Chi. We have also won homecoming, celebrated our 35th anniversary (thank you to all the alumni who came out), and we now have a brother who is the Vice President of the Student Government. Thank you for all the support this year, and we can't wait to show you what we are up to next semester.

For this weeks Meet-a-Sig-Monday, we have brother Brandon Tiet from Gainesville, VA! Brandon is currently a freshman studying Biology at Mason 🔬. Some of his hobbies include food 🥘, the gym 🏋️‍♀️, hiking 🥾, and playing destiny 🪐! Brandon has been a Sig since Fall 2021 and is also Kustos for the Iota Xi chapter. When asked about Sigma Chi, Brandon said: “Sigma chi has given me something that I never knew I needed, and to that I am forever grateful to the brothers and organization.”

For this weeks Meet-a-Sig-Monday, we have brother Jarod Blakely from Hawaii & Australia 🇦🇺! Jarod is currently a freshman studying in the school of business at Mason. Some of his hobbies include travel 🛫, sports 🏐, and music 🎶! Jarod has been a Sig since fall 2021 and is also in the social and rush committees for the Iota Xi chapter. When asked about Sigma Chi, Jarod said: “Sigma Chi is an amazing group of gentlemen from all over. Meeting new brothers from different places is a cool experience due to the fact that we know that there is at least one thing that bonds us together, and that is the brotherhood.”

Some of his hobbies include photography 📷, the outdoors 🏞 and listening to music 🎵! Enzo has been a Sig since 2021 and is also PR chair for the Iota Xi chapter. When asked about Sigma Chi, he said: “Sigma Chi provides a lifelong family of men that work hard to improve themselves, each other, and act as shoulders to lean on through the hardships of life.”

Some of his hobbies include cooking 🥘 and hiking ⛰️! When asked about Sigma Chi, Nav said: “Sigma Chi has brought me many skills as well as a family I love.”

Fun Fact: Nav has flown a plane over the Denali Mountains ✈️

Come out and represent your team at the Sigma Chi 2022 Huntsman Games! Huntsman Games are a philanthropic event consisting of 6v6 volleyball and 3v3 basketball tournaments where 80% of proceeds will go to the Huntsman Cancer Institute. For the remaining 20%, there will be a raffle held for a philanthropy of your choice!

For todays Meet a Sig Monday we have Brother Jake Sheffield! Jake is a current history 🏰 major at Mason! His hobbies include fishing 🎣 and painting 🎨 ! When asked about Sigma Chi, Jake said “Sigma Chi has given me something I would’ve never expected and has made me feel right at home.”

Fun Fact: Jake started his college career at Longwood and transferred to Mason this year!

For todays Meet a Sig Monday we have Brother Jackson Mandart! Jackson is a current kinesiology major at Mason 🏃🏼‍♂️. Jackson is our current Vice President and has also served as Scholarship Chairman! In his free time, Jackson likes to hike 🥾 and exercise 💪🏻. When asked about Sigma Chi Jackson said “This chapter has brought me so much joy and has given me a family that I love very much.”
Fun fact: Jackson aspires to be a psychologist 🧠 one day!

Evan’s hobbies include playing video games 🎮 and Muay Thai 🥊. When asked about Sigma Chi, Evan said “Sigma Chi has given me a lifelong friend group and helped me grow as a leader so much!”

Fun Fact: Evan has held 7 different leadership positions in his time as a brother!

For this weeks Meet a Sig Monday, we have brother Kyle Tran from Richmond, VA! Kyle is an engineering major here at Mason ⚙️. Kyle’s hobbies include playing video games 🎮, listening to music 🎵 , and watching movies🍿! Kyle is also our PR Chair for the Iota Xi Chapter. When asked about Sigma Chi, Kyle said “What I love about Sigma Chi is the bond that has been created by all of the brothers. I know I can trust every single one of them and I know that we will always have each other’s backs.”

Fun fact: Kyle has served 4 years in the United States Marine Corps 🎖

Joey’s hobbies include playing video games 🎮, hanging out with friends, and watching movies 🎬🍿! When asked about Sigma Chi, Joey said “What I love about Sigma Chi is the long lasting friendships I’ve made and the togetherness you feel with them.”

Fun fact: Joey owns over 250 movies! 📼

Misha’s hobbies include drinking boat loads of Chinese tea 🫖 and playing soccer ⚽️! When asked about Sigma Chi, Misha said “What I love about Sigma Chi, is that the morals and standards of it help you to be a better person.”

For this weeks Meet a Sig Monday, we have brother Max Hoover from Woodstock, VA! Max is a geology major here at Mason 🌎. Max’s hobbies include playing video games 👾 and playing tennis 🎾! One thing about Sigma Chi that Max loves is “i love sigma chi bc it’s full of respectable guys that i am happy to consider my brothers.”

Fun fact: Max is going to study abroad in Korea this upcoming Spring! ✨

His hobbies include going to the beach 🏖 , boating 🚤 and scrolling aimlessly through TikTok📱. When asked about Sigma Chi, Cole said “What I love about Sigma Chi is the diversity of personalities within the chapter. also nafi, i love nafi.”

Fun fact: Cole has only seen snow once ❄️
